Default Double Exhaust System.

I know there are a few "exotic" car that have like a dual exhaust system set up where you can change the sound of the exhaust by hitting a button and it actives plates that reroute the exhaust. I was wondering what exactly it would take to do this. I posted a basic illustration to show you what I mean. I think it would be cool to have the OEM exhaust system but having a tube route around the muffler theremore making it like a straight pipe, and then having the option of the two... Any Ideas on how to go about this?

the most rear actuator valve needs to be removed from where it is and put in the bypass line, like where the routing arrow is. then when you close the one on the main exhaust, and open the bypass it will be forced to the bypass ,, as it is, the gases would take the less restrictive route through the by pass and some through the muffler, and i have a 2.5 cut out new never installed cost me 135 + shipping ,,will sell it to you for 120 shipped. jim

Racoom, the tail pipe (between the converter and the muffler) makes about a 60 degree turn from the left side of the muffler to where it enters the muffler on the right side (at least it does on a NA car). This would be an ideal location to install one of these:
Doug's 304 Stainless Steel Electric Exhaust Cutouts - JEGS
But I think you would have to install a" turn down" pipe that would dump the spent gasses just in front of the muffler. Because there is only about 3" of space between the Crossfires chrome exhaust tips and the muffler, and this may cause installing a by-pass pipe (around the muffler) that ends in front of the chrome extensions very hard to do.
Using this method, I wouldn't advise running with the dump tube open for very long, because the chance of exhaust fumes entering the cabin is possible, but for short periods (with the windows down) it might be a viable alternative.
Years ago, people use to run "turn down" pipes on the back of their mufflers (just in front of the rear axle) with no problems. I even drove an AMX I picked up in California across the country (with this type of exhaust) and had no problems.
Gary "Valkryderguy" has a video of Lorens NA Crossfire with straight thru exhaust posted. I don't know if a SRT would sound the same, but it might give you some idea.

once the cut off was open wouldnt you have to close the opening to the muffler? wouldnt it sound wierd if the exhaust was going through the cut off and the muffler?

you would then take it to a muffler shop ,,have them weld a peace of pipe in and weld or clamp the cut out to it then run your wires to the cabin place the switch where you want it connect to sw and grown, and power and you are done,,, but first go to a shop and ask if the will weld in a cutout on your exhaust in some states, the answer is NO. if they say bring it by and lets see how it will fit, , here is a pic of the one i have, it has all the wiring, switch and it is new, all you need is a hole in your pipe with a short pipe welded to it. jim
