RX-8 Owners--here's your chance...
Mazda is buying back ALL RX-8's if the owners want--here's your chance to buy the Crossfire!

Subject: Mazda RX8 buyback
While the horsepower has decreased by a little more than four percent, the overall performance of the vehicles has not changed. Zero to sixty times are still consistently hitting in the low six-second range. Regardless, Mazda made the decision to inform owners and provide those who purchased their RX-8s prior to August 23, 2003, with free scheduled maintenance for the balance of the factory warranty and $500 worth of prepaid gasoline. Should the owner request it, Mazda is also prepared to repurchase the vehicle. Every customer received a letter outlining these options for them. They have until October 1, 2003 to respond to Mazda. They also can call the Customer Assistance Center at (800) 662-6779.
Auto Spies perspective: We're told they could have to buyback over 3500 RX8's. Ouch!

Turns out Mazda has overstate hp claims for the car by about 10 hp. After texex posted, for the heck of it I checked out a forum similar to this for RX8's.
Those folks are pretty lathered up. Most feel the hp is overstated by more than 10 hp, and they are also saying mileage is bad....some of them saying they're getting less than 20 mpg highway...

Time for those owners to get Mazda to buy it back (I think personally it's silly to have to buy back a car for 10HP mistake--but I understand and I'd probably be bitching too) and come over to the Crossfire!
