First Impressions
Hey gang! I was running a few errands a couple of weeks ago and stopped in at a local Chrysler dealership to checkout the Crossfire. I pulled up in my 2003 C230 sport coupe and a couple sales guys came out to check it out. After a brief show and tell, I told them I wanted to check out the Crossfire. They had a Black one on the show room floor. It was about 8:30 pm and I guess they were a little bored, so they ask if I was ready to drive it. Of course I stated "Hell Yes". What a car. I love the stiff suspension and the sweet exhaust note. I was a little suprised how quiet it was at an idle, but it really comes to life once you get on the gas. I took it out on a country road and took it to about 80 then slowed to 50 and hammered the breaks. I stops on a dime, perfectly straight. I then took it up to 100 from a stand still, it did pretty well. It places you into the seat pretty hard, and it seemed the time was about the same ac my C230, which was expected with the 3.2 engine. The main thing was that it was a total kick in the butt. It straightened the 15 mph corners near perfectly with no body roll at all. The sound system was pretty good as well. I love how high the doors are to the driver, near shoulder height and the glass height is low as well, which really encompasses you in the driving experience. I would love the Pano roof from my C230 in the Crossfire, except it wouldn't fit the roof styling too much. I thought the cup holder was kinda cool, a little narrow but likely functional. I also would have liked to had seen set it and forget it HVAC controls. It was just a blast to drive. The sales guy was just a kid with only a few months on the job. He told me later that his boss was real critical on who drove the car and all the sales guys had to go through special training before they could take a customer out. The way I drove it (abused it) I imagin the kid was fired the next day, especially since he only ask for my first name and didn't give (wasn't asked) any ID prior to the drive. Afterwards I hopped in to my Coupe and headed for home dreaming of a Crossfire sitting in my driveway. Maybe late 2004 early 2005 after the C230 is paid off. For now I feel like I caught the biggest fish in the boat. I'm still smiling ear to ear.
