Default Painting Silver Accent Pieces? How much?

I stopped by my friendly Chrysler body shop yesterday to get a quote on a little custom painting and was SHOCKED by the number that came back. I would like to have all the silver accent pieces on my Crossfire painted the same color of the body. I was quoted $647 to paint the door handles, side strakes, and wind shield surround. Has anyone else had this done and if so, what did you pay for the work?

I have an hard time paying that much for those tiny pieces, but I really want this done…

its not the actual painting that gets you...
its the labor to remove and reinstall the parts

I helped a few other members who were trying this a few months ago meet each other and exchange pieces.

One guy had a base coupe (everything already black) and wanted it silver and the other guy had an SRT and wanted it all black, presto-chango, exchange identicle pieces and both parties very happy.

Just my .02, find a base owner and help each other out.....

That's not far off what I would have guessed the price to be. In addition to the removal and installation, there is also prep work and if done properly, time needs to be given to wet sanding and smoothing out the paint/clearcoat so you don't have orange peel. Even small jobs can be pricey when you realize exactly how much labor is involved!

I am too on the fence about that. I have the grey crossfire and have a buddy that can do the carbon fiber wrap for me. I have only seen the windshield surround done on a black car. Not real sure how it would look on mine. I have a buddy with a "Black Series" Benz that is silver with the REAL carbon fiber pieces that looks awesome. What I do not want is for the fake carbon fiber pieces to actually look FAKE, hence the paint route.

I may have him do the windshield surround for me to try it out.

BLKFIN

Damn that seems really high. I asked the body shop guy at the dealer I get it serviced and he said it'd be a couple hundred. Not an official quote but it gave me an idea.

Both side strakes and windshield surround simply pop off. Door handles–need to remove the door panel to get access to no more than 3 screws tops? Un-hook the linkage and you're done. Provided the parts are in good shape there isn't much sanding required. Some 600, no need to prime, existing paint is a great primer just ask any painter. All parts could be done in 1 day easily...

Well over here is Seattle, If i pop my side strakes and windshield surround off the guy quoted me $110 to get it powder coated black. He also said if you want the wheels powder coated he will do it for $45 each. Hope this helps! Keep looking!

powder coating plastic is an impossibility
you cant staticly charge plastic

i dont really know how i would feel about a carbon wrap, as that would throw fitment off a wee bit
full carbon replacements would be ideal

Is there a recommended way to pop off the windshield surround? I don't want to just rip it off and in the process crack the surround or break any tabs. It looks like the surround is actually 3 separate pieces, correct?

Are there any clips that could be damaged for either the windshield trim or the fender grilles that I should order in advance if I decide to have this done? If so, does anyone have part numbers?

thanks,
Bob

I'm sure there is a correct way to pop them off, i.e. from the leading edge of the surround, but I'm not sure of this. There was a thread where someone did it themselves.

Yes they are 3 individual pieces.

I'm sure the clips could be damaged so being cautious when prying them off is key. As for the side strakes the clips are built into the strakes themselves so being careful here is advised too. I broke one of the clips (there are 3, 1 per strake) but they still go on and don't move once you put the good double stick tape back on them.

There is a thread in the Interior Section that has a website that shows you how to remove the pieces. It's fairly easy. I removed mine, upholstered mine in vinyl and then put them in. I didn't like the vinyl so I took off the vinyl later on and I'm definetely considering painting them chrome now.

I had my door handles painted graphite gray to match the body color- My local shop charged me $90.00 to pull them off paint (with 3 coats of Clear coat) and re-install. They quoted me $200.00 to get the side-skirts painted and installed but we all know how that project ended.

I had my windshield trim painted for $150. I removed the parts and put them back on myself.
