Leather Center Console
Leather Center Console
Hey Everyone,
I'm sure you all know the silver center console on your Crossfire's. I was thinking to doing mine over by converting it to the material that is the same as the dash above. Not sure if that made sense, but I want to see if I can get the silver console covered with the same grainy leather like material that the top dash is made out of. Obviously some parts of the console may not be able to be covered, like the moving parts and the buttons, but the big parts would. Do any of you know where I could get this done? Has anyone done something similar? Thanks!
Sam

Re: Leather Center Console
I did mine in Medium Gray leather I bought for $7 from a local auto upholsterer. I bought a sheet of 1/8" foam (medium) at Hobby Lobby and cut 2 pieces, 1 smaller than the other and wrapped it around the removable panel your elbow gets sore on. Works nice!
If you remove the whole console door and take it to an upholstery shop, I can't imagine it would cost more than $30.

Hey,
Really, it's that easy? Wow! I was thinking of doing it myself but I'm not sure how to remove the console parts and I don't want to breat anything by forcing them out. I thought about taking it to G.A.S. but that would cost me more, don't you think? Do you have any pics of your interior?

Hey Maxcichon,
Yea feel free to send me pics whenever you want. As for the pics that are there, I really like the bottom one if only it was in dark gray. I also would want to do that to all or most of the silver pieces on the console. I would have to leave the buttons of course but I don't mind. I think it would be a nice accent to the dark gray. I have an 05 LTD Coupe and the interior is mostly dary gray, gray, and black, but more gray than black.

Yeah AutoXclusive is very pricey as I just found out. I like all their chrome accents though. If I could get my center console done in leather I would definetly consider using the chrome accents. Now i just have to figure out how to get my console in leather, haha!
Re: Leather Center Console
All the accessories for our cars are pricey. But, I have to say that AutoXclusive is the most reasonable compared to the European vendors, plus they have been worked with us with GB, and discounts. They have the best price on the clear corner lenses for sure. Plus they are easy to work with.

I bought this "leather" fabric and my ingenius wife made this embroidered "Crossfire Elbow Cushion" for me. Just slips over the door with elastic bands, it can also be taken off and washed. She also uses it when she's riding shotgun.
BTW it doesn't hinder getting into or keeping the door closed.

Hey Everyone,
I think you guys misunderstood what I meant by center console, or I just called it the wrong thing. I want to cover all the silver parts of my dash/center console from the tip of the A/C Vents all the way down to the openable door. I know AutoXclusive has different colors for all the silver pieces on the dash/console, but I want to convert those pieces into the same leather/material that the upper part of the dash has, that grainy leatherish material if you know what i'm talking about. I know all the plastic silver parts can be removed but I do not know how to remove them. I also don't know how I would cover them in that material and then place them back. Any Ideas?

Believe it or not--once I installed my silver carbon fiber kit, my sore elbow syndrome went away. According to the B&I manufacturer's site, the kit is made with GemFlex II (oooooo, ahhhhhhh) which they describe as:
It gave the armrest just enough of a cushion for my boney elbow...LOL
I like the idea of covering the sides of the console with leather. A matching gray Connolly or Bridge of Weir hide I bet would sure make the cabin smell good too. Here's an online swatch of Connolly's AutoLux in Slate Grey. This is the leather grade that has been in Rolls Royce and Bentley motorcars for years so it might be good enough for a Crossfire. Maybe a weekend project for me this Summer.

In addition a brilliant high gloss finish, B&I's high performance polyurethane clear coat has several outstanding features, including; an ultra thin profile for a more 'factory like' appearance, incredible flexibility for easier installation and advanced inhibitors to prevent cracking and dis-coloration that can occur from prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures and harmful UV rays.
