what's in your trunk
First Layer:

(BassLink, Volvo Emergency Kit; I recently picked up a Crossfire Satchel to put the Northrop Grumman Bag into)
Second Layer:

(The compartments to hold jumper cables, radar detector case, spot cleaning supplies, a few small convenience items)
Third Layer:

(The component board that houses the AVG-VDP, AVD-6210 and ND-BC2)
(The fourth layer is the stock compartment for the central locking, tire repair supplies etc.)

A Califormia Duster above and,
A bottle of Meguiars UQD and Microfiber towels in the hole.
What is all of that stuff you guys carry along? Are you preparing for the Zombie Invasion? End of the world?

In the winter it can be very cold out there.
In the event of an accident, it's really nice to have a trauma first aid kit, extra lights, and things like that.
Jumper cables are just common sense (ones with 4-gauge wires the minimum requirement).
Touch up detailing supplies - a big white splat of bird leavings really screws up the look.
Then there's the spare radar detector parts...
I never ceases to amaze me how invulnerable people think they are the minute they get into a car, and how helpless they become when something goes wrong in a place where civilization isn't there to save the day.
MacGyver is my hero.
I'm still new to this whole 'trunk thing'.....I do have the following items, yet have failed to load them in:
Tire repair gun kit
needle nose pliers
Black and Decker battery charger / tire inflator
California Duster
Monty

ppro,
unlike you, MacGyver doesn't carry along all of his cleverness.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I know all about conditions. My arctic bag (USAF) saved my a$$ on Jan 2, 1977.
But it's SUMMER now!
I guess I should have mentioned the tire plug kit and needle nosed pliers. I'm cheating. I lug the gatormouth tool bag along on roadtrips. Not around town.
And face it. These are far removed from a '65 Buick. If your fuel pump goes south, having a friend give you a ride to and from Auto Zone is pretty useless. Warranty and free towing, baby!
Must really screw up you're 1/4 times. Have you thought about a trailer? Or a roof rack?

Definitely preparing for the zombie invasion! Where do you live, so we can come hang with you when that happens?
In my trunk (or somewhere in the car), I generally have paper towels, the car duster, jumper cables, a change of clothes (for when the mood for a road trip strikes unexpectedly), a blanket, a small box with some essential tools (just in case), and an umbrella (actually usually behind the passenger seat), and the cupholder thing that slides between the seat and the console when it's not in use (i.e., whenever I have a passenger that doesn't weigh less than 100 pounds).
