Not Feeling Welcome at the Car Show...
Wow, I had a strange experience at a small local car show yesterday.
I drove past a small display of cars in a local parking lot. So I doubled back and pulled into the parking lot to see what was up. There was one corner of the lot dedicated to the grouip. I pulled over to the edge of the lot and parked out of the way, away from the "show cars". A number of people under a little canopy positively glared at me So I walked over. They all looked away from me. I know that second head of mine is a bit wierd but most of the time people don't react like this! Anyway, I asked if it was OK to park where I had left my car. One of the people grumbled something unintelligible but since it didn't sound like "No", I left my car where it was an wandered through the "show cars". It was a rag-tag bunch of cars, nothing to incredible except maybe a new Cuda. I came and went without another word from anyone.
I think this is the first time I have ever encountered such a dismal bunch of "car guys". Sure didn't make we want to join the club!

Locally our cars make a good reception at shows. A lot of people walk around the back to see what kind of car it is looking for a name badge. They really get intrigued when they see the Powered by MB under the hood.
I have found that some groups/clubs that have mostly older/ mediocre repainted cars, are not that interested in a newer sports car.
Better luck next time. James

happened to me lots of times with my PT Cruiser, and i got to where i would inter the show and have been told we don't allow those cars in the show, because they wanted a 2005 vette to win and with my car in the shoe it would not win. jim
There have only been a handful of shows where my Crossfire was welcome. There are shows every week, but they are mostly "old" car snobs. At one, a guy came over and with great disdain in his voice said, "What are YOU doing here?" I told him, "the same thing those two new Corvette owners are doing." He just gave a bit of a snarl and walked away.
I just got a flyer from a charity car show put on by the local firefighters because I entered last year's show. The judging was done by the participants. I was up for best import and thought sure I had won because I watched as a number of people put my car down as their choice. When it came time for the awards it seems that no one had actually voted for mine (so they said). Probably would have won if I had that AMG badge on then. LOL
On my invitation, they said I was welcome and could pay the $30 entry fee but because my car was newer than 1980, I would not be considered for an award.
The charity lost $30 that day.

I have belonged to three car clubs, two that sponsored shows. The Jeep club didn't have shows, but did a ride every weekend. In my experience, car people are some of the most friendly and often most gregarious people out there. This was a strange response. I don't know if it was jealousy. It seemed more like the way a bunch of Hells Angels react to a cop...
I attend a couple of car shows a month never had a problem and have raked up a few awards. The only time I had someone say something was at a local GTG by a Mopar club where I wasn't even there to show the car, I just happened to pull over away from their cars, I heard one of the guys say, that's no Mopar.
ppro - I know what you mean.
I pulled in to AutoZone a month or so ago to pick up some Mobil 1 on sale, etc. There was apparently a car show in the parking lot, but there were only about 5 cars. I parked 5 or so spaces away from them as I did not want to act like I was part of the group and offend anyone.
There was an AMC Javelin, 70 Cutlass, 50 Chevy, 72 Cutlass, and something else that I can not recall at the moment.
Anyway, I parked, and walked into the store and was glared at. After I came out, same thing. I wandered over to look at the cars, and the glares continued. Not one person said hello or anything. It was like they hated me and the car I drove up in (SRT6).
I did notice that when I pulled out, the whole crew was watching. Weird.
It is not jealousy IMO. I think most folks who go to car shows want to see older cars. New(er) Vettes are probably okay since they are Vettes
.
I just think that there is a hefty disdain for our cars. Lots of haters.
I don't care though, I always cheer for the underdog

I think that the comment about having a USA sourced V-8 engine is correct. Plus, having the best looking car on the lot doesn't help either. There are some haters out there, make no mistake.
