Guy tried to race..
So I just got my new Crossfire last tuesday and have been really good about driving it considering I'm only 17. I had wrecked my truck over the summer and totaled the thing on the parkway, which my luck turns out to be federal property :/ So to make a long story short I'm getting charged with reckless driving and now have 4 points on my licensee...
One of the things I've always wanted to do is to beat somebody in a street race. Well on my way to my friends on the HW is a Trans Am riding next to me. He rev's up and it actually sounded pretty good, so I ignore it and keep driving. He still goes at it trying to get me to race him. I'm still getting use to the six speed and plus another ticket is not what I need.
So I just end up taking an exit and let him go on.. I know he'll probably be talking sh** thinking he can beat me, but I'm pretty sure I could take him.
Am I in the right or wrong?

Year? Some of the later models will run in the 13-14 sec range stock. They also have a lot more part options so some are pretty quick. For every fast one there are a bunch more slow though. Could have been a good race could have been a good kill, could have left you crying. Not racing was prob for the best, you don't want the high insurance bill that comes with the tickets.

Besides, sounding good and being so are two different things.
What year Trans Am? Stock? Most of the mid '80s were powered by the 305. Sounded good but wimpy. You could probably take one of those stock. Some of the newer ones are fairly fast. Some just look and sound fast.
another ticket is not what you need.
What mods have you done. Are you bone stock?. Have you perfected power shifting? If you are going to street race from a roll, power shifting is a must.
Another ticket is not what you need.
Here's the thing. The NA Xfire is fairly quick. Both off the line and in the twisties. But, it is not a drag strip car. 0-60 in 5.7 sec is quick, but it ain't fast. Quarter mile in 15 seconds won't win any trophies. Truth is a good driver in a new Camry could whip your stock Crossfire. Humbling, I know.
Another ticket is not what you need.
Where you racing when you totalled your truck? Judges really don't like that and if you are doing it again, 4 more points lets you do what? Walk, right?
Another ticket is not what you need.
Want to know what you got? Find a local drag strip that has a public nite where street racers can do traps. Many are doing it now to get drag racing off the public streets. $ 10.00 to $20.00. Find one and spend a evening getting your clock cleaned by some tricked out cars.
Then remember that the same technology is available "on the streets"
Another ticket is not what you need right now.

ahhh to be young.....and stupid. Forget the points be glad you didn't get killed or worse yet killed someone innocent. Racing is fun, but there is a place for it, on the track.
When you are young you feel invinceable. Try not to test the theory.

17-year-olds do not have the driving experience or sound judgment to race on the streets.
It may seem like you do, but when you're older and look back upon being 17, you'll realize you didn't.

Guys if I can be so bold to offer a suggestion, for maximum excitement when street racing be sure to wear a blindfold and use a 500hp shot of NAWZZZZZZZZZZZZZ to keep it real yo!

And as far as the ticket, I was coming down the mountain on the parkway when a dear was in the road. Tried to swerve and ended up going off the side of the embankment backwards rolling my truck. Haha, I made a phone call to my parents that I never want to make again. And who knows what the judge will do.

It's an 04, and yea you're right. I'm probably better off, but I'm sure when I'm more experienced and get some mods under the hood it'll be a good race.

the fastest N/A that has ever taken it to the track was with NOS and only ran a 13.7
...you won't win against a T/A... just saying.
if you want to win a race. two things
1) get an SRT6 and
2) only do it at the track....only.
its not worth anyones life to see if your car is faster.
my car ran mid 10's in a eight of a mile not fast by any means but something im proud of
any of you other guys with the srt's ever go to the track? (my car is stock not the srt just the v6) dad says he wasn't going to my funeral which is why i couldn't have the srt i understand that now
Here in California if you get caught street racing they don't just give you a ticket (which is a mighty large fine, by the way) but they take your car away too. For good. And crush it.
Even if you win, you lose.
Even if you win, you lose.

The last thing you need to be doing with 4 point on your license is street racing. What are you trying to do? Get your license taken away until you are 21? I don't mean to lecture but come on use some common sense. Read Franc's response and start using your head.
You already have 4 points on your license and an under-developed prefrontal cortex. That makes you susceptible to taking unnecessary risk. I am proud of you for not taking the bait and racing. Why risk your license, or your life, in a pointless race. You did the right thing.

Yea same in NC, that was another reason that kept me from flooring it.
It would've been nice to see him get pulled though
