Default Wacked out wing!

I did a search but didn't find an answer to this problem. When I start the car the wing goes up. I then use the button to put it down and it works perfectly normally while driving. any Idea why it goes up with a twist of the key?

Most common cause, low voltage. Time to check your battery condition. James

I have read where others had their wing doing crazy things like that and it turned out to be a battery going bad.

Thanks for the replies. battery may be the problem. I was traveling for ten days and came home to a dead battery. I jumped it and it has been fine for the past week but the wing wants to go up when I start the engine.

I have purchased the Interstate MTP-91 at the Firestone store for $99.99. It's a 85 month battery.

I just finished reading all about my battery choices and the Interstate or OEM from MB dealer looks like best choice for me. Thank you

I am pretty sure you guys figured it out. I jumped in the car to go get a battery and it would not start! I drove it all day yesterday with no problems. After jumping the car, I went to Firestone to get the Interstate battery but they wanted $169.00 I decided to call the MB dealer in the morning and see what they want.

If you have an O'Reilly's (a chain auto parts store) nearby, they sell a battery for the Crossfire for $75-80. It's a 100% perfect fit for the OEM battery except it is black (not white.) Much cheaper than Firestone - same CCA and reserve power rating.

WARNING: Crossfires were manufactured with two different physical battery sizes. The battery part # O'Reilly has in their computers is for the LONG battery. Some Crossfires (like mine) have a spacer on the battery tray which forces you to use a shorter battery. Make sure that you bring your battery into the store and choose the battery that matches your XF. The two different battery sizes are identical except one is slightly longer than the other.

$169?! Holy crap! I've seen people on the forum get the same battery at Firestone for $85 that includes a $10 off coupon.

My total at the Firestone at 7831 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas on 11/1/08 was $111.24 with tax and exchange.

There are two different numbers for Interstate batteries made for our cars. The more expensive one, which they wanted to sell you, has less cranking amps than the MTP91. You need to ask specifically for this number. I bought mine from a neighborhood MOM & POP autoparts store for $111.55.

I used my Blackberry to pull up this site while I was there and they didn't believe you guys had paid that little. I do have an O'Riley's but they were out of stock.

My car has the longer battery

First I have heard about it.

Lantana - any warning lights on the dash? One time my esp/bas light came on and the spoiler did funny things like what you are describing. I did the manual esp/bas reset and it stopped. That was two winters ago and hasn't done it since, KOW.

Hi Mr. onehundred80, I'll take a picture tonight and post it, I figure a picture is worth a thousand words

I replaced the battery yesterday and no more wing problems! while having this problem, I never had a warning light. The wing just went up every time I started the car. I then pushed the button to put the wing down and everything worked fine until the next time I started the car.

Those that get the wacky wing warning to replace the battery are lucky. Ours died on the red xfire with no warning at all. Not even the sign of slow crank. Fortunately it happened on a Saturday morning when I went to back it out of the garage to wash it.

So when should the batteries be replaced in these cars and how do you know if you still have the original one???
