Auto Trans wont shift - dealer and tech can't find cause
1900 miles on vehicle - started up and noticed that auto stick non functional car would shift 1st to second and then lock out to limp home mode. Shut down and restart every thing OK for about 1/4 mile and then again with Check Engine light.
Dealer has had the vehicle now for 24hrs and in touch with Chrysler tech and still no cause determined. Any one had issues that might lend some insight :x

This problem sounds exactly like a problem I had with my Chrysler Sebring. My car had the same symptoms. I think it had something to do with the transmission input/output speed sensors. The replaced them and then it worked fine. The only thing is that the engine/transmission in the Crossfire is of Mercedes origin, so it might be something completely different.
I had transmission problems with my 97 Cirrus at about 68k miles. It would down shift to second then would stay in 2nd. It would shift up or down. I had to disconnect the battery cable to reset the computer then it would drive okay for a little while then start the same stuff. Chrysler dealer rebuilt the transmission (thank God for extended warranties). They told me that most of the seals were bad.
Were there any symptoms before this??? I think I'm starting to have tranny problems. Rough shifting & winding out. I've got 8+k miles on my '04 (autostick). Unfortunately it's not consistent enough to take it to the dealer.
I took it to the dealer. According to the error code, it looks like the speed sensor. The shifting issues and engine light went on two days in a row. The only thing that I notice before was that when I put the car from reverse to drive there was a hesitation and a mild rev/jerk. Not sure if this was related to the engine light going on.
An update.
Just got a call from the service dept. Looks like its the transmission control module now. Now sure why they change their mind regarding the speed sensor. Once I get the car back and test drive it, I'll post another update. Here's keeping my fingers crossed.

what was, i got the same problem, the coupe's been parked since last weekend...no warranty...i had it scanned, it said the speed sensors went bad..but i don't know...are the sensors mounted unto the valve body
the removal of the code should be no more than the cost of diagnosis..which is 80 bucks here...but it is not guaranteed....it worked on mine, it may or may not work on yours..i feel ur pain...good luck and keep us updated...
You are the second person so say that to me. I think this is the problem. What I noticed is when I took the unhooked the battery for a while and then hooked it back up it worked for about a day. The next day it wouldn't be working. If this WAS a bad sensor, wouldn't it NOT work at all no matter what I did? I left the car over night last night and tryed to call the service department today to make sure all he does is the diagnostics on it. I will give it a try. I can take the $80 to fix it, not the $1000. Thanks so much for your help.
The dealer just called to talk with me. The car isn't doing anything anymore, so they have to wait until it does. Then he started to ask me about all the lights that were coming on. He was like, "We are going to have to charge you a diagnostics check for EACH of the lights that are on till we can find the problem." What the hell??!! I told him I wanted him to reset the code. He said he would call back when he runs the check. I guess if it is just the speed sensor that it will tell him that. This is killing me.

I don't understand how resetting the codes will make it better. Why the hell do we have so much electronic stuff anyway? I kinda wish everything was basic. No tire preasure sensors and stuff like that. Just something esle that can go wrong.
I did call the dealer all freaked out. They assured me they weren't going to charge me for every time they ran a diagnostics on the car. I feel better. Hopefully this will work.

Steenport, you're in Austin, you may wanna give these guys a shot at it. They're just off N.Lamar in North Austin. They were able to help me out with a speed sensor issue and the diagnostics will cost you half of what your dealer is charging.

yea...when i read they wanted to charge you for eaach light i was like what (even the winsdshield fluid)..lol..but at least the car is running....u can try buying the scanner but the one that contains software about the crossfire is the ODB III and its about 4000 bucks on ebay and close to 7000 retail..thats why the dealer charges 80 to diagnose...but i dont think its a sensor because the car would either be running fine or not at all....if u shift hard, neutral revs, constant racing, burnouts through gears, all those things could affect the tranny because i've noticed the autostck on the n/a crossfire isnt made for performance..I think its small problem like circuit, or even tranny fluid ...do u drive it hard...how many miles does it have...tranny fluid need to be changed 60,000 miles...let us know what the dealership says when the car limps again...
No, I do not drive it hard. The car has 68,000 miles on it. I just don't get what it could be then. If it isn't the speed sensor, then I am not sure what it is. Do you think the trany fluid is causing the car to go into this mode?
yea...because...its actually the fluid that runs from the radiator to tranny to engine..this fluid makes ur shifts smoother....it could be that..but since u got 68000 miles, u are overdue by 8000 miles on the tranny fluid...i forgot the name of it, but only needs to be flushed out once in the car's life, it should be about 100 bucks...this lack of fluid to the transmission could throw the car into limp mode....have u had the car diagnosed yet...what kind of codes show up...
I am still waiting to hear about what is wrong wtih it. For some reason the car isn't doing it anymore. I will let you guys know what happens.
