Default SCHEDULED MAINTENACE?

Does anyone know what maintenance at what mileage? My dealer doesn't! Everytime I ask, up go the shoulders and hands wave to the sky. This is where Chrysler falls short, service and communication are none existant. Going in tommorow with 10,000 on the Xfire.

Did you get the owner's manual and other documentation that comes with it (or any car for that matter)?

My documentation has very detailed tables showing what service is to take place at what mileage intervals.

The maintance reminder will show a wrench when a oil change is due. A brand new car will show 7000 miles.

The FSS will tell you when it is time to change your oil according to the internal monitoring system. As long as you did not disconnect your battery, the FSS will be accurate.

Of course, you can change it whenever you want but you might be wasting oil, the environment and money.

Lazy question, but what/where is the FSS located? I'm past 7K miles and I don't see any wrench indicator, but maybe I'm not looking for it? Had my oil changed at 3K, and they put a sticker on the windshield saying I needed next service at 6K (but I haven't had a chance to take it in).

diane,

Push your odometer reset **** "twice". It will then show the wrench were the mileage was. It will change back in a few seconds. ;-)

The FSS appears in the odometer display.

When service is required one of three possible icons will appear beside the odometer reading.

One wrench (Service A)
Two wrenches (Service B)
Clock with a wrench (Time-based service)

To find out how much is left on the counter, turn the key to the on position and within 5 seconds push the trip reset button twice. The wrench icon will appear together with a number which is the miles left to service.

It is written up in your manual in the Instrument Panel section I believe.

Hopefully, your service people reset the system when they changed your oil.

There are several articles that have been written about poor oil changing habits in the US despite improvement in engine oil technology. Most service centers still say 3,000 when most synthetics don't require oil changes for 7,000 or more.

Oil manufacturers don't really want to say anything of course, they sell more oil. Car manufacturers don't really want to **** off the oil manufacturers, so they don't say anything. There is money to be made by the mechanics so they don't really say much either.

Engineers? The public rarely hears from engineers.

Unlike the oil change indicator in GM cars and other Chrysler models, the FSS is supposed to take into account driving conditions, engine temperature and other parameters.

If you haven't read about how to use the FSS, you probably don't know about the oil level indicator too, that's pretty darn useful and apparently, more accurate than the dipstick. The manual talks about that too.

You guys are the best! Thanks for the info...and yeah, I know I gotta curl up with the manual someday, but I'm too busy taking road trips! And we don't get any "snow days" in California!

Way too funny! Yes, I suppose my commute 80 miles on Interstate 5 everyday would be a good time to read...but being a girl, when would I put on my makeup?? (NOT)
