Default BURNING SMELL and BLACK DUST ON THE SIDE OF MY CAR!???

Has anyone else had the problem with the Break Dust being sooooooo bad it is on the Side of car?????

Look at this and I just cleaned the rims and car two days ago!!!!! I'm sure it's the OEM Pads, but I'm also getting a burning smell.

Received my Disc Italia's today, going on the car Monday!!!

That only happens when you are completely ignoring the laws of the road, and the laws of physics in order to put the biggest smile on your face possible in an afternoon of killing dead dinosaurs and carving corners.

Get those better pads on there asap!

Burning Smell and Black Dust... for a moment there I thought this was a thread on what I had for dinner last night.
I agree with Bladecutter, time for some new pads. Where your front rotors glowing red by any chance? That could explain the burning smell.

If you're not carving corners and braking hard, it could be a sticky caliper.

It looks like the brake was sticking, caliper was not releasing properly.

Weekend and date nite one for the old guy again.

Simple test for the brakes and calipers, especially for women: More sensitive hands you know.

After driving touch the center of the wheels to see they are similar in themperature side to side. Fronts run higher and back is therefore _ _ _ _ _ .

If one is significantly different the brake is having and not shareing well with others. They should always work as a balanced team.

Also at low to moderate speeds you can hands off slow the car NORMALLY and see if it consistantly pulls to one side indicating that the brakes on the other side are not getting it.

This dynamic brake test is even better if you have a temperature gun, you can actually get a reading to compare. Just measure the same area on all brakes, the hub being my choice. The rotors can easy be 500 degrees if your driving it a bit.

Weekend Woody WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The smell is definitely coming from the front....I checked the temps... there is only a very slight difference between the front and rear.

It is going for the new break pads Monday. I will have him check the calipers out, which I know he would anyway, when I mention the burning smell to him he immediately said the calipers might be sticking a bit.

I thought that we already determined that it is impossible to break dust. The consensus is to be content with breaking wind. Good luck with your brakes.

Sorry for being a S A.... but I could not resist.

UPDATE!!

Well I was smelling something burning OIL! Seems whoever changed the oil the last time did not put the cap on tight, oil is all over my engine!!!

They are trying to clean it up, best they can.

Will let you all know about the new pads in a week or so... see how they do!

Deb -
Thank goodness you didn't lose too much oil on the Tail of the Dragon! You would have fried the engine!

Again, you are lucky.
