All kidding aside there just ain't enough lipstick
Here's a thought. If all 1418 "active" members chipped in $5.00 each, we would probably have enough to adopt this sorry little critter.
That way, we could get it off the street, into a warm, caring, environment....or at least give it a proper burial.

Man.. If only that targa top was a clean job. That is sweet looking potential right there! Except the more you look at it the more ugly it gets. All the panels don't match up, even the rocker panels.. I got a feeling there wasn't enough support and the car bent?
that car is a basket case... what half a** work... which is far from complete.
i can only imagine the creaks and rattles while driving that gem around.

O.K., someone here must provide a counterpoint (but I waited until the thread played out so I wouldn't get fried too bad in replies).
1. I love the color--serious as a heart attack.
2. I believe the concept is valid and the final outline, had it worked, would have been a keeper (especially if the roof somehow fits in the trunk).
3. Black wheels are far and away the best on this car.
Having done some chop work before, the problem here is that the car has definately tweaked in the middle (or everywhere). The top wasn't done wrong as the owner states--the distance between the top of the windshield and front of the back roof has shrunk.
This, alone, does not explain all the mismatched panels, but it does account for the doors. Also suspect, the listing stated that the car was disassembled and painted. Even taking a car to metal, you only disassemble if you need to rebuild, and you only need to rebuild if the original stuff is broken. I.e., this car was somehow wrecked. But there'd be no reason to buy that much new metal on a totaled XF. What's the explanation?
My guess is, even before the roof, this car was launched and came down hard from 3' or more, bending everywhere and blowing out the rims and tires.

Excellent idea.
Maybe a plot line for a new reality show, sorta.
Cool.
I agree with your analysis. This puppy was cooked once aleady and the "rebuild" did not put it all back much less reinforce the body for the alterations.
The Targa concept needs to be executed on a roadster. Which seems kinda counter productive but if you really want a Targa.
I'd start with a red one(cause they are faster) and do all the top panels and trims in black. Maybe go really retro with a Naugahide cover on the roof panels.
It might be a better use of one's time than lurking around the political forum all day, but I really like my roadster the way it is.
roadster with a stick
I was wondering how the passenger airbag was ever going to deploy with that cheesy suede covering the airbag hatch, but then looking at this heap's sheetmetal alignment, it dawned to me the airbag in all likelyhood has already been deployed, hence there's no need for a workingl airbag hatch.
I'm genuinely astonished that there are even 2 bids on this car, I guess P.T. Barnum was right when he said, "There's an a$$ for every seat."
Do you like that? I tried match the font color to the car!
