Default Tires? YIKES!!!

I'm experiencing a little sticker shock here folks.
The 05 XF only has 26k but the rubber is starting to crack. As you know a flat on these cars sucks and a blow-out at 130 would suck harder.
Discount Tire has "Barum 2's" for $833 installed. Bridgestone's for a grand.
I skinned the 85 Vette for $480 total at Costco just a couple years ago. Where's a deal like that?
Has anyone tried these Barum's? It appears to be the best buy. I really don't want to dik with any mail-order or internet krap.
Thanks

I'm an old Goodyear guy, but my D'3s, which are summer tires only were 860 total....so, they are in the right price range...retail, mine would have closer to 1200...

In this economy, more and more people are looking for the absolute best performance/cost ratio. Check out this Forum link to read up on the Hankooks.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-evo-k110.html

I bought Goodyears last year and they are definitely not in this price range but, I like the way they ride, noise level and wet/dry capabilities.

Good luck!

I completely agree with ^^^^^^^

I have Hnakooks on mine and they are the best bang for the buck tire. Very good performers and not quite as expensive as some other brands.

I've run the Barum tire (185/60R14) on my 1993 SSGT (Suzuki Swift GT) and they perform very well. No experience with Barum tire fitted for XFire.

But I would suggest you try checking on a set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas for the XFire. I got a really great price for set of Vredestein Sportrac3 (195/45R15) for my 1993 SSGT back in 2008 from a dealer in Florida and he shipped me the tires overnight. Hard to find size for the 1993 SSGT and the tires perform better than anything I've used before. Based on the SSGT handling, I'm convinced the tire for the XFire will also more than meet my expectations. (Note: I attached a brochure with the XFire tires highlighted.)

Here's their contact info:

Hi-Performance Designs, Inc.
803 E. Reynolds Street
Plant City, Florida 33563
Ph: 888.707.9880 / 813.707.9880
Fax: 813.707.9893

I also attached brochures for Hankook & Cooper tires that are available for the XFire. There's also another Hankook tire (V12 Evo / K110) that fits and apparently I've already posted that brochure somewhere else according to the Forum, so I couldn't post it here.

There are some bargains out there, but you'll have to look. And I fully understand your position of being able to deal with a local supplier where all of this web searching is eliminated and you're back on the road with minimum hassle. Probably will feel the same way when it comes time for me to get a set for my 07 Coupe.

BUY FROM DISCOUNT TIRES....

I paid about 800 total for Continental Tourings at discount tires. I had a blow out with my front tire and they had to order the whole 4 wheel set (my rears were low and figured I mine as well get a new set). It took a week but in the mean time they gave me 2 new front Contis so I could drive the car. When they got the brand new Contis (different model) they replaced the front for free and upgraded them so I could have a matching set on all 4 tires. That alone impressed me.

So I say stick with Discount tires and get the latest Contis. Don't mess with goodyear, firestone... blah blah... American piece of junks. We could argue all day about which brand and model feels best at 50 MPH Vs 150 MPH. Which brand handles better. Which brand wears down faster. Who really cares!!! There are more important things you could be doing. Just stick with the brand that came with the car and move on with more important things in your life.

One thing is for sure... get a new set of 4 Contis and your car will be smooth like it is sliding on ice.

Sliding on ice is the reason it's been put away for the winter.

I use Nitto NT555's for the street and the track they are great. Cheaper than pilots by a long shot and last alot longer.

Both $555 and $830 are tuckloads of cash. If that's what these things cost, then I'll go with the Barum 2's. I just want to drive in, get it done and drive out.
The Conti's lasted 5 years and from what people say, they're not that great. These should last at least that long.
Also,
Saturday's on and should be great weather. I need to put some wax on the car friday so she's ready for the show.
See ya there!

I second the Continental DWS. They are the best all-season tire you can get for the money.

I've been satisfied with the oem Conti's that came with all three XFs. My roadster has 34k miles and the rears will have to be replaced this summer, but the fronts have 50% of their tread at least. Since I really only drive these in the summer, and don't need the different tread and composition of an all-weather tire, what are the options for a good summer tire? I want something that is quiet, lasts a reasonable amount of miles (not too sticky since they wear fast and I don't race anyway), at a reasonable price. I also want to go 265s on 275s the rear to help protect the rims and give it a wider stance.

$1300+ for my new Michelin Pilots at Costco. Oww. But they're real nice. The guy said I'll wear out 2 sets of fronts vs 1 set of rears, cuz you can't rotate them. Showed me some Y rated F irestone "flame" tread tires that looked cool, but I passed. They cost a lot less.

Also not in the price range! But I absolutly love my proxes T-1R's Up here in the great northwest, where it rains almost as much as it does in california. I feel that this is a great all around tire Quiet, moves water very well and has great grip wet or dry! (and great feedback when aproaching the limit.

As far as afordable the general Exclaim uhp is prob the cheapest and gets solid revues

Acquired 2 Achilles ATR 225/40/18 92W UTOG 400 for $66/each to go with the Blikzak LM-25 265/35/19s that Tires.com closed out for $105 each..(tires-easy wanted $365 each for those). I'll put them on next winter.....gotta be the cheapest anybody ever paid for a set of tires on a Crossfire??? Sleazy choices I admit....

Go ahead.....start laughing .....
