Default Alternative Tires For The Xfire...

Hey Gang,

I had some time to kill this afternoon, so I did some tire research. For those that can afford the Michelin Pilot Sport 2, go for it as ites probably the best bet. For semi-retired guys like myself that donet have $2,000 plus for new tires, here are four alternatives at about half the pricec The prices are from my local Discount Tire store. The price includes mounting and balance, minus taxes and the road hazard insurance which is about another $140.00.

Just something to think about when it comes time for new tires...

You can look these up at tirerack.com and most will have what they call "survey results" on them. Basically they solict user feedback on areas like dry & wet traction, handling, road noise, ride comfort, etc. The Goodyears were rated well. (I was looking at them as replacements for another car.) Can't recall the feedback on the others.

Forgot. I believe that if you use directional tires, like the Goodyear, then when it comes time to rotate the wheels, you'll need to remount the tires so the tread (and directional arrow) is pointing in the right direction. It's no longer simply taking off the wheel & tire combo and putting them on the other side of the car as one would do with the Pilot Sport 2.

You may have a point, but.... IMO rotataing from side to side gives only "minimal" benefit to prolonging the life of the tire, why bother??? The dollar savings to me far outweighs the few extra miles I would get out of the tires by rotating them.
