Ignition Switch Housing - need advice fast!
Hi guys,
Last week, I was leaving work and went to turn my key to turn on my car and the key wouldn't move. When I stopped to get gas, and went to turn the car back on - same thing. It took a little wheel turning to get it to finally turn over. It did that when I got home and tested it out too.
My car just recently went out of warranty in January, so I went through a local Mercedes dealer to buy the tumbler, which was what my trusty local autoshop suggested would be the issue. Well, it came yesterday, and a locksmith and the autoshop helped switch the old one with the new one, and they say the car is still like it was, even with the new tumbler.
They are saying that the only other thing it can really be is the housing. I know there's a thread or two about this, but I wanted advice on whether I can go to a Mercedes dealership and get the part i need, or whether I have to go to a Chrysler dealership. Also, if possible, does anyone have the part # for the housing that i need? Any advice about this subject would be GREATLY appreciated, I'd like to make a few calls tonight and possibly order what i need if possible. Thanks so much in advance!

Yes you can buy the housing at MB - I bought it and never used it. It is much easier to fix the old one. search sticky ignition key fix. all the info is there. I removed the spring and pin from my original one in Aug of last year and no problems.
