My interesting weekend
Carmax here in Atlanta has been selling X-fires for $28,500 thru Feb. I decided it was time....time for me to get my butt in a X-fire. The problem is my partner has a 04 Audi A4 Cabriolet and I had the 03 Honda Pilot EX-L that we used for hauling people, things and a new dog. How could I get a Crossfire and still be able to haul around crap? Well, that's when I decided to buy the X-fire AND a 2003 Honda Element EX.
To stagger the purchases, I confirmed with Carmax that I could order the X-fire (with a 6-12 week delivery time) and still get the current price (or better) when the car actually arrived. On 4 occassions I asked them to confirm that I could order at the end of Feb. Sure, no problem they said.
So, on Friday I go to negotiate on an Element and during the process I call my salesman at Carmax to tell him I was gonna stop by with the deposit and place the order later that night. He called me back as I was wrapping up the Honda transaction and told me that they COULD NO LONGER ORDER MY X-FIRE. I was so pissed. I wouldn't have bought the Element otherwise!
There were many X-fires on dealer lots around Atlanta, but they were all automatics or some color combo I didn't want. Carmax did nothing to make amends. The didn't offer to locate a car for me...nothing.
Don't get me wrong, I really love the Element for what it is (an inexpensive cargo van that drives like a car) but I'd have kept my Pilot if I knew Carmax was gonna wig on me.
So, on Sunday, I found a graphite 6spd with dark/med slate interior in hicksville Georgia. It took some doing and leaving the dealership once, but I GOT MY CROSSFIRE damnit! And she's a doll.
$29,000 plus tax, tag and title. With the higher doc fee, I paid about $700.00 more than Carmax was asking, but it's still a good price. Worth it as I don't care for the dark slate or cedar interiors. Personal taste.
Whew....tough weekend, but I just couldn't let you boys have all the fun!

Thanks Danwell!
Also, since I purchased the car from a country dealer, they didn't know anything about it. Am I suppossed to get that cool "Presentation Tin"? Where would my multi-function tool be? How long till luggage arrives? How much luck have ya'll had with fixing the driver's window wind noise? Any recommended Atlanta area service depts?
I know I could research all of this, but honestly I've been so busy ever since getting the X-fire that I've barely slept.....much less read the owner's manual!

My phylosophy too - when all else fails, read the manual. My multi function tool was located in the pocket in back of the seats. I have mild wind noise also on the drivers side, Chrysler has a fix if you bring it to a dealer. Elements are cool, but according to the latest Car & Driver they have had some early repair problems. Welcome to the forum.
wonderdallas - my multifunction tool is in the same packaging as the front license plate bracket that I'll never put on my car! Also, I've heard some wind noise from the driver's side, but is it really worth the hassle of taking it in? I've only had it for a few days, so guess I should ask myself the same question in a few months. I'm really looking forward to getting my luggage, too. The dealer seemed to be clueless on this as I was demanding my luggage before I left and they seriously thought I was kidding. Morons! Sad state of affairs when the dealers and salespeople know nothing about the car. My favorite might have been when the guy said the auto doesn't have the autostick function and i'm like, um, what you think THIS IS?! and then he looked at it for 5 minutes, thought about it and then goes, oh, maybe it does.
1) what does the multi-tool look like? i think i've got it but i want to be sure.
2)luggage: got the same stuff from the dealer. "that's betwen you and the factory." well, after a couple of months, i e-mailed chrysler and got a message bask to call a secret phone number and leave my info. it was a tape and i left my info. next day i got a call from a very nice lady who had the lamest possible story about having sent it to another address...couldn't tell me where, but they would send it now.
amazingly, a week later it showed up. absolutely great set. high quality etc.
i suspect that they may be doing the luggage on an "only if they demand it" basis. kinda like a rebate scam. the salesman was very suprised that i even got it at all.

Dan,
The multifunction tool looks kinda like a tiny cane, with the curved top end kinda looking like a wrench. There's a picture of it in the manual somewhere and you use it apparently if your car gets stuck in park or drive or neutral, not quite sure.
Guess I should call chrysler and try to demand my luggage. I saw a picture of it in someone's gallery and thought the wheels on the luggage matching the rims on the car was funny, clever, and cute. You have any idea what # I should call?

If you just bought your Crossfire, give them a couple of weeks before you call. Ours arrived in about 2 - 3 weeks. We had a notice at our front door and had to go to FedEx to pick it up. So watch your front door !!

When Chrysler receives notification that a xfire is purchased, they send the luggage directly to the purchaser. This avoids the hassle of dealerships having to deal with it, and more importantly, avoids the hassle of not-so-honest dealership employees helping themselves to a nice set of luggage. Don't get me wrong, I'm not stereotyping or slamming dealership employees, but things like that can and do happen. I think I got my luggage 2-4 weeks after purchase, I really don't remember, but it wasn't too terribly long.
Speaking about the 'wind noise' ive read about on here a few times, I so far have zero wind noise. I sure hope its because they have ironed all the glitches out before my Vin Number.
>>>> Ive got the new radio, No tire bubbles, No wind noise, No rattles, pops, squeeks or shakes, and no glove box lock falling off.
Its a precision machine that really is a Mercedes in a uniquely styled Chrysler skin. I can't wait to slide behind the wheel this weekend
Hope to get my luggage soon.
...also speaking of dealers not knowing much about this car, mine thought the car had a spare tire (Donut)

well, maybe someone who knows can help here. my understanding is that it's for releasing the auto-trans...stick the point thru a hole by the shifter...when it binds after parking on a hill. if you just brake, shift to park and release the brake, the weight will shift onto the trans causing the bind. better to have the emergency brake hold it then shift.
i think
anybody know??

This tool is also used to access the front towing hook. I read somewhere in this forum about someone having difficulty using the tool and in the end reached in behind and detached the grill by hand.
This is the old topic - more than you will ever want to know about this "tool".
