Default To mod or not to mod? KEEP IT PURE

Certain subtle mods can be cool, but here is a list of ones that make me cringe to hear of on the Crossfire.

:x De-Badging (Hey, I love Chrysler for making this car)
 De-Chrome (Chrome is classy like this car)
ops: Changing the wheels to aftermarket. (If you must then use proper ones like Carlsson or Lorinser that are made for Mercedes and not hondas.
 Anything that looks ricer or homeboy. You know, stickers, white tail lights, goofy large spoilers, or those stupid spinners you see on suv's and cars.
-------------------------

Mods that sound okay....

 The Euro Blue Headlights- How hard is this to do? Details........
8) Tinting windows.... Any advice on this, must be top notch and look good with Sapphire Silver Blue.
Im hoping somone comes out with replacement fins for the side that are made out of metal (Please please)
 I would love to replace the plastic console and dash buttons with metal (or equiv) to match the quality of the rest of the car. (Any Ideas?)
:P Radio- I like the radio pretty well but the sound is not as natural as it should be. Any ideas to improve the sound for small bucks? Maybe a unit with built-in EQ would help smooth out the sound? I really like Pioneer but wish there was a Euro brand that works well in this German built car. Any Advice on this? I sure wish Becker was easier to get in the states.. and not so expensive. (Yes I know the stock one is a scaled-down becker) Ive seen Blaupunkt but it hasn't impressed me much yet.....

Default mods....

debadging the crossfire cleans up the rear end imo....the individual letters are nothing but wax and dirt collectors.

then again i removed the M3 emblem from my previous car an 02' M3.

i know what i am driving and i like the simple clean look.

personal preference i guess.

The only visual changes I'd make are:

Exterior:
1. Replace the gold Chrysler badges with silver ones like that are on the wheels.
2. Xenon
3. The fins to be stainless metal/aluminum instead of plastic.

Those are all pretty minor.

Interior:
1.Replace all plastic "metal" with aluminum
2. I wish the secondary lighting on the console was brighter or adjustable.

Honestly I can't imagine better looking wheels than the standard ones. I haven't seen anything that I think retains the class.

Some mods im going to make are

Exterior-
1. HRE or Lowenhart Wheels
2. Tints
3. Xenon Headlights or even HID if i get a good deal
4. The front chin spoiler from the SRT6 when they start selling it.

Interior-
1. In Dash TV w/ DVD/NAV System
2. Change all speakers to JL Audio or Pioneer

I already have the TV/DVD but haven't installed it. I had this set up in my previous car.

Trust me one thing i hate it to make a car look ricey. That is why I will get the best. I hate to see a nice car with cheap rims with no LIP! It's all about the LIP! LOL.

As to the Interior...

When I look at the SLK's, it appears as if this is the exact same centre concole. (?) It looks (based on what few photos I have examined of the SLK) as if you could swap out the wannabe-chrome plastic with any of the SLK types.

But, that is just my casual observance. Anyone know for sure?

ANDREW,
how did you de-badge? with a heat gun or a hair dryer? Difficult? I thought about re-sticking the letters under the spoiler, if there is enough room...

Default the simple art of debadging.......

begin with the use a heat gun/blow dryer....apply heat to the letters and then use a piece of fishing line to remove emblems. slide the fishing back and forth under the emblem to loosen adhesive...do NOT pry or pull on loose emblems. use an adhesive remover (3M, goo gone) to remove remaining adhesive. then polish with a non abrasive wax/polish.

as for reusing the emblems....you would have to probably replace them to have them re-adhere properly.

Anyone have any ideas on if and what the costs would be of adding a "T" top. I had a Chrysler Laser (yes Chrysler) that had a "T" top and loved it. -- Thanks Ed

You must have some negative reasons for this, what are they. A "T" is safer and quieter than a soft, and you keep your luggage space. I have had many convertables and the one "T" and I prefered the "T". -- Thanks for your comments. -- Ed :?:

I just think it will take away from the overall look of the car. IMO they look cheap and I agree with crossfiretech.

ANDREW: I can appreciate your answer to de-badging, I guess like you said, its just personal preference. Wow, you had an M3? I still stare at those when I see them, as they are so expensive and all.

WONDERDALLAS: I like your wish list, I also like the stock wheels alot but I do wish the rear had 'lip' like THEFRANCHISE mentioned

GALEN DRACOS: Yes, the Crossfire has almost the same inside as the SLK. I also wonder if that cool woodgrain console would work in the Crossfire. I love Mercedes wood dash's.

ED: *smile* When I think about T-Tops, I think of Trans-ams in the 80's and 90's. Please don't cut on your Crossfire  I do however wish the Crossfire had a sunroof. 8)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

ANDREW, what is the cost and effort to add the Blue headlights to the Crossfire. Is it very easy?

also can anyone explain steps to replace the CD Player? I know electronics, just need steps to get origional unit out, thanks

Default blue bulbs

the bulbs are about $40 a set. i replaced the foglamp and low beam headlamp bulbs. easy to replace...access foglamp bulb from inner front wheel well and headlamp bulb from behind the headlamp.

in my album....i added a couple of pictures of my old 02' M3. too many M3's running around in my area...i wanted to be different...so i bought a crossfire...rarely seen in my area. my next purchase in a year or so will be an e55. i change cars often...about every year and a half or so. i'm a car nut!

What is "lip"?

IMHO, I like that the Crossfire doesn't have a sunroof or God forbid T-tops. I like the chopped and low roof and the cocooning effect it gives. I can appreciate convertibles and targas, but maybe because I'm light sensitive, I like how little light comes in the cabin. Call me weird.

Default a lip is.......

the outside edge of the rim moving in toward the face of the wheel...the dish of the rim.

the srt 6 has a lipped rim....the standard crossfire does not.

I'm with you Dallas. I had t-tops on my last car and never took them off in the last 3 years, and that's living in L.A.! I also couldn't stand the light coming in, am hypersensitive to Mr. Sun, and put the sunshades in there to keep the light from coming in. I hate convertibles cause of the sun, the wind ruining my hair, and feeling unsafe, like I'm not surrounded and protected. Targa top would be kinda interesting though. I don't like the convertible Crossfires though because then you lose the whole boattailed back. Just my 2 cents!

How about two small sunroofs so that the spine is not messed up? I think that would look kinda like a jet fighter cockpit, especially if they were tinted...
I wonder if anyone makes a sunroof that would be small enough to work? 8)

I'm right there with ya gregthegr8. I love my partner's A4 Cabriolet, but it drives me nuts if I forget my sunglasses and/or visor.

I could imagine a targa on the X-fire, but personally I wouldn't want to lose the structural integrety.
