Default Here we go!! Problems!!!

First problem has reared its ugly head on this car. The wife comes in tonight and say come out and look at the car. Seems the heater fan was running when the car was shut off. Just barely could hear it but sure enough it is on. I looked in the manuel about the heater and the preheat function and all that bull. I did everything the manuel says three times and the thing still runs. All I can hope is the battery does not die before we can get this thing to the dealer for service tomorrow.

Let the fun begin. I sure hope I did not make a mistake with this car.

flathead:

In the "pos malfunction" thread, crossfire tech was talking about a feature of the car that starts a pump to keep the car warm for up to 30 minutes after the key is turned off. It is the REST button on the console. Did you possibly press that button by accident?

I guess I am going to have to re-read my manual...

Are you sure it's not just the electric cooling fan? Most cars nowadays have one or more electric fans by the radiator that will run on for several minutes after the car is shut off to help cool it down.

Give me a break guys! Sheesh! no not the electric cooling fan, unless they now cool the engine through the inside of the car with air coming out of the vents :? Not the rest feature either, did all all that. Its been an hour and a half now and the thing is still running. If it dies I figure they will have to come and get it. I aint touchin a thing because you know how they frown on that.

Try pulling #36 fuse in the under hood fuse box.#36 is for the blower motor.Or unhook the battery. And calm down it's not the end of the world. One possible problem and your ready to sell the car.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune

The rest feature should only run for 30 minutes (I believe).
Key out of ignition, blower stil running longer than 30 minutes... sounds like a shorted control module.
First trip to your dealer. From some of the posts on this board, I have gathered that not all dealers treat their customers as well as we do. I would recommend that your vehicle be taken to a five star dealer that has a Crossfire certified technician. Although dealers can be somewhat impersonal; the Crossfire is a specialty vehicle- Most of us who are certified to work on them volunteered for it because we love the car. See if you can meet the tech- I like meeting and chatting with my Crossfire owners. It makes working on the vehicle personal and the care I take on your car is the same as if it were my own. Best of luck- let us know how it goes!

Thanks Crossfiretech. I pulled the fuse and it shut off. Put it right back in to see if it would stay off and no luck and started right up again. So out it stays till morning.

I am not ready to sell the car quite yet. It is just frustrating that things like this happen with a new car. It will go into the dealers tomorrow. Then I guess it's my turn to find out how competent the tech there is. If he is as good as the rest of the folks at the dealership I should be OK.

Glad to help.I know it's a pain in the *** to go to the dealer but these things happen. Most of the parts and electronics on this car are Mercedes Benz.

Default don't give up yet

Flathead,

I can certainly understand your frustration. I think all of us have had at least one problem, big or small, that we feel should not be there on a car aspiring to this caliber.

Then on top of that, what is often a small problem is compounded by poor dealer service in many cases.

That said, reality check says very few first year issues escape a laundry list of teething problems, and frankly nearly every new car model, regardless of how long on the market, has a certain percentage that has problems.

Your fan problem is problemmatic, but it will be corrected and you will likely have few problems beyond. I guess I'm lucky, I've got one of those dreaded low numbers (1152), AND it's a six speed, but I've had virtually no problems other than the well documented wind noise and former radio everyone has experienced.

Don't sell it yet, not for this minor problem. If Galen can hang in there, anybody can!

In my opinion they are trying to build in too many frivolous functions into todays cars, all controlled by a single computer or some other electro-mechanical device. I fondly remember my MGB's.................

Well it's been 5 days in the shop and still no part to fix this fan. A simple controll module.

I get the feeling that this will be the norm with this car. Not that it's a bad car, I really like it but I think it will be a hassel to own in the long run. I would not be surprised if production stops on this car soon. I am thinking of bailing out . Depends on how much of a bath I will have to take on a trade.

I've owned a couple of Mercs - all E class - one saloon and a station - the electrics are NOT failsafe - and in fact I left the brand and went to Saab because I was fed up of constant electrical failures either from the lights, a/c, radio, or as on the worst occassion a complete failure of the main control panel which closed everything down including the assisted steering and brakes !
With the Saab, I've been completely trouble free for the last 36 months Whoaaa.

I got my Crossfire about 2 weeks ago. I live in Vegas, and I love it. There are not many of them on the road here, so it looks real unique. It lacks some of the creature comforts of my previous sedan, but that is not why I got it.

Unfortunately, after 4 days it was in the shop. Some electircal module in the steering column that made all the guages go crazy and made the air blow hot out of the vents and shut off the dash lights. They had it from Friday to Tuesday. Fortunately I was out of town anyway. I hope I don't have recurring problems with it as that will definitely take away from the enjoyment.

Update on the fan problem, They called and said they put in a new blower motor :? why I'll never know, the blower worked fine, It is the controll. Now they say the fan will not run when off but will run only on high. I told them I want it fixed right. Now it will be at least till monday before it "might" be fixed. Soon the car will literally have been in the shop more time than I have had it on the road. All for a stupid heater fan.

Incompetence at its finest, Why were the techs not trained on this car before it hit the sales floor? Why are the shops not stocked with parts to fix this car? I know its only one problem but I know enough that this car was a big 30,000$ mistake.

Lord only knows what they are doing to my wireing on the thing.

Hmm.. Strangely enough- A dealership can not acquire Crossfires to sell unless they have at least 2 technicians trained on the car. Is this dealer certified to sell Crossfires? Is the trained technician working on your car?

As far as I can tell the Xfire tech is working on the car,He is not fully trained on the car and is at school for it two, three days a week. Am I not justified in being pissed at this? IT IS A SIMPLE HEATER FAN!!!!!! Today will be the 7th day in the shop for it. I have been real nice about this to the dealer so far, but if it aint right by Monday I am going to start raising cane. There is no excuse for this,,, none!!!

My understanding is Crossfire training is only 6 hours. One day, given in Detroit. I had started a reply to this thread yesterday and stopped myself when it turned into Mechanic bashing. . .

But, apparently, the 6 hours isn't enough for every mechanic. Some people have had great service experiences. So, the class is obviously helpful to some. The rest ... I don't know. Perhaps they aren't paying any attention. Using it has a paid vacation to Detroit (I used to live there, and can't imagine "vacationing" there, but ... [shrug]).

What your mechanic is going to school for, then, I don't know. Maybe Chrysler is starting to realize 6 hours isn't enough for the lowest common denominator of mechanics. Or, maybe he is going for his philosophy degree.

Could be a degree in communications...another pointless degree....hehe. I shouldn't open my mouth cause I haven't had to take my car in for servicing yet and have only had it for 2 weeks tomorrow.
