Since we have to pay for oil changes and most other service (Unlike Mercedes and other Euro cars that get free oil changes and service for 5 yrs or 50k miles) Im just curious how much this will cost. Anyone know what Chrysler is charging for this?

 

my dealer, in houston, gets 25$ or so unless you demand synthetic (required for crossfire warrenty) then it's 60$.

i think wal-mart have a deal on oil and that place that sells craftsmans tools does it cheap.

 

Wal-Mart? :shock: C'mon, this is a car that is meant to be serviced properly, not just any oil change place or even do-it-yourself. I will be taking mine to the dealer and I don't think $60 is bad for Synthetic oil and a service check.

 

Most folks are spendining a good part of a $100 bill at the dealer for an oil change on the Crossfire unless their dealer is taking it in the shorts.

It's not rocket science to change the oil. Remove the bottom plate to gain access to the drain plug and remove the plug, drain the oil, reinstall the plug, remove and replace oil filter located on top of the engine, add 8.5 quarts of Mobil synthetic and your done. It's the cleanest oil change around, no drips from an oil filter on the side of the engine.

 

Do it your self, Please, I use to when I was younger, but I have this car to enjoy, I'm 65 now, don't feel like changing my own, have the dealer do it for $74.00.

 

I concur--stay away from WalMart on this car. First they have probably never seen one, and have no idea where to do things. A co-worker made the mistake of going there (w/ a truck) and the guy did not even put the cap back on the oil cover--and he figured it out when oil started leaking out of the hood. Steer clear of the old WalMart...

A $100 bill is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.

 

Don't forget, that in theory, you can extend the synthetic old change interval so that it can be 2x or 3x as compared to regular dino oil. Whether you change your oil every 3-5k or 5-7k is up to you. But this makes the higher price of oil change more acceptable. BTW, the synthetic oil change on my PT is $48, so $70 isn't so bad.

Taking it to the dealer is not much better than walmart. I've seen some of the lube-boys that work at dealers and they don't look much more qualified than the guy at walmart. It's not like the dealer is going to have their ASE certified master mechanic change your oil. It'll probably just be some kid making minimum wage. :roll:

 

True, but you will have recourse at a Chysler dealer servicing a Chrysler product--at WalMart something goes wrong, oh well.

Yes, I can understand some of you wanting to do it yourself, thats perfectly fine and I am almost tempted to do this but one question..... Who shuts off the 'wrench' symbol/s and what about the warranty? Ive never taken a car so serious or loved a car so much.....can I get an A-men?

You can reset the FSS yourself... instructions are in the owners manual. As for the warranty... keep your receipts for oil and filter and whatever else you do.

BTW You do not have to utilize a Chrysler Dealer for routine maintenance to keep up your warranty. If you have a shop you trust and take your car there... just keep the receipts for the work they performed. The Xfire being a MB keep in mind there are some really good shops that specialize in the MB and do work at less cost than the dealer.

 

I purchased a maintainence policy from the dealer that covers ALL maintainence for the first 36 months/36,000 miles. Cost was $274.00. The way that I figure it, at the rate that I drive, 1.5 oil changes a year X 3 years = $450.00. A good deal already and the best part is, the policy is also honored at Mercedes dealers. I think I will have my oil changed at Mercedes rather than Sears.

 

From what I've read on this forum... MB dealers won't touch a Xfire. Let us know what you find out.

 

I called the local MB dealer. They said they will not do Crossfire warrenty work, but they will do service. My policy will pay for service at any ligitimate service center.
