Default Sensitive upshift (Autostick)

My autoshift is super sensitive on the up shift. I barely have to touch it and it'll shift up, making it almost impossible for me to keep my hand on the shifter. When I downshift I have to move it all the way to the left and if I'm not careful It'll upshift itself on the way back to the center position.

Is this something I can adjust?

Yes, but anything I would say would derail this thread

For years, in every thread where someone tries to improve the performance of the NA, everyone with an SRT says, "you should have bought an SRT" and for the first time ever, I can say, if you wanted control, real control over your transmission, you should have bought an NA 6 speed LMAO.

Sorry thirteen, hopefully you take no offense, but I have been hearing this too long and needed to highlight one important reason to get an NA over a SRT

LOL no offense taken, Once you learn how the autostick works it's rather effective. It takes time and willingness to learn how to use it. On mine though all I have to do it touch it and it'll upshift. Which is rather annoying, so if I can adjust it I would be much happier.

Blasphemy! How dare you!

To the OP: The only thing I can think of is that you are not resting your hand on the stick properly. I don't know if it's the angle or what, but every once in a while I'll notice that I am accidentally pushing a bit to the right, which is probably causing your shifts. It is a tight fit in the Xfire...

I am well aware of how the autostick works, having driven 30K+ miles in my parents 2005 limited roadster, this is the SOLE reason I did not end up with an SRT, and why I almost wrote off the XF all together, until I found my 6 speed

Thread hijack. Pure horsepower vs. manual shifting.

Play card: Level 99 Horsepower - Casts pure manliness. Destroys level 7 "stick".

FIGHT!

Mine does the same thing to a certain extent - not as bad as yours, but I HAVE noticed that it takes more of a movement to downshift than to upshift.

I don't know, but suspect that the switch module/assembly that controls shifting is not mounted exactly right in many or most cars.

Or......... maybe they intended this because they wanted it to be easier to upshift and/or didn't want you to downshift unless you MEANT it.

Oh, and Boiler: I must say, this is the first car I'v owned with an automatic. It is THAT much fun - that I'd buy an XF with an auto!!!!
I tried two 6 speeds, but didn't like how they shifted. I'd still have bought one had I found a 6 speed Roadster - but when this car came along, (low miles, red, excellant condition, etc.) it just had too much going for it to pass up.

This made me laugh, because I have screamed, "I MEAN IT!" (or maybe "SHIFT YOU POS"), then slammed the autostick to the RIGHT as hard as I can to UPSHIFT. This is only because the tiptronic just doesn't want to listen to my commands. It's frustrating.

Well, Jon is right, if you want TOTAL control, you need a 6 speed.

I just find the automatisk a good compromise. And, like I said, the car is SO much. With a 6 speed, I'd not be able to yak on the phone and do other stuff that I can with the automatic.

Like I said, it's not what I wanted, but it's an acceptable compromise. I keep thinking about buying a 6 speed coupe someday to go with the Roadster.

Maybe someday... maybe.

Been stopped twice in the past 6 weeks - no tickets. But then, I was in the pickup one time and the company van the other.

Jon, missed you and Molly at the Dragon. You missed out on a great run that I had with hcarter and John Book. The road was empty in both lanes and we ran unrestrcted until we ran up the tail pipe of an RX 7 near the top. John Book did an excellent job representing the n/a mt group. I was very impressed with his car and his driving skills. Hcarter was behind me and John followed him. I did not spend a lot of time looking in the rear view but I am sure John can give a good assement of how his car ran with the two SRT's. All I can say is we all had a blast and I would be glad to run with those drivers anytime. Btw, I bet the RX 7 guy thought he was cooking until he was caught and played with by the three Crossfires. Looking foward to a fun run with you in the fall. Jim
