Default What can you buy for 10-12k? Other questions

I'm looking to buy my first car! I know many will say that it isn't right for a 16 year old to have this car but I simply DON'T CARE, my heart is set on this car and I simply MUST have one. In Michigan there aren't any Crossfire's so I didn't even know about them but when I went to visit family in Ohio I saw several... they must be a fad around there.

Besides the title question
-I heard people 6 feet and over have trouble fitting in these cars, I'm 6 foot. Is this true?
-I also heard the 2004's have issues. Is this true?
-Why have the prices of these cars dropped so much? They seem to be amazing cars and deserve more popularity.
-Is the SRT (SRT-6?) automatic or manual... or both? I want automatic.
-My birthday is in the winter. Should I buy in the winter instead?

I apologize for the parade of questions. Thanks for any and all help.

I am 6'2", and I fit. Many bigger guys also fit.

Not sure of 04s having issues.

Chrysler may have been asking too much when new. Few people understood what these cars
are all about. So they were never that popular. Once they were no longer made, basically 2006, the price dropped.

The SRT6s are all automatics.

All Crossfires should be respected while driving, They can get away from a driver.
Short wheel base and good power can lead to trouble real quick.

Take your time and find a real gem, The SRTs listed around fifty K. You can find a nice low mileage for around twenty.

Good luck.

i wouldn't advise buying this for your first car. get some experience under your belt and if you don't wreck your car buy one of these in a couple more years. tires for these cars are expensive as well as oil changes

I'm 6'1" and "fit" just fine. More leg room than you think. Headroom is limited due to the chop-top design.

04 manuals can have 1st gear "pop-out." I just sold a perfect 04 with 58,200 miles that did not have ANY problems at all.

All luxury cars take big hits. I sell cars and NADA calls it "E" class for the mileage charts---BIG HITS. The car never took off because $35,000 for a two seat "CHRYSLER" was out of the question.

ALL SRT"S are auto, but say with the N/A's for cost on insurance and 15% better gas---plus if you bend it you will not be out as much money. I'm not trying to be your "daddy" here, but these are totaled quickly because body parts are high or hard to get. Mechanically--no problem, the parts are easy to get and are not that expensive. If you do get this car, get full coverage.

I do not get the birthday part!

You can buy a good 04 with miles under 60k for $10,000---several have been on here counting the one that I sold for $9950.

I agree with you, but telling him this may be a waste---HAHA! You are right though. This is not the greatest first car if he does not respect it. And driving it in the winter MAY BE the reason that he does not see many of them up there.

Never mind bday part. I was just assuming that you would get a better deal on one in the winter since sportscars sell for less in winter.

You miss understood---the "waste" would be telling you NOT to get it. I understand about having your mind set. Just be careful---for your safety and the car's. This is not my first choice as a first car, but PROVE everyone wrong and take care of it and stay out of trouble. Good luck, Jimmy

It will be my baby

And trust me I will put safety first. I have seen what crashes can do firsthand and won't take any risks besides going over the speed limit every now and then (this IS a sportscar you know ). In fact, I expect to be insulted by my peers for not constantly speeding and taking risks with this car.

the ins costs for a young person may be a bit steep. if you are paying for the car with your money you will take better care of the car.
understand these autos dont care for shortcuts. proper oil is high $ same for coolant flushes and so on.... save for this as it will need to be done. dont skimp
take a bit of advice from an old timer who has a few miles under his belt, keep the racing on the track not on the street. when the peers rev the engine smile and cruise away

I live in west Michigan, and own a 2005 6 speed limited coupe. I love my Crossfire, but in late November, it goes in the garage, hooked to a battery tender, covered with a sheet, and does not come out until the roads are dry. Good luck with your's.

i dont understand why people don't drive these cars in the winter. i can see if you have the money and your car is immaculate but in my opinion if i have a nice car then im gonna drive it. as long as you go to the car wash every week or so your car will be fine. my stock rims have a serious case of road rash (caused by the previous owner) and i slapped some all season tires on them so thats what i use in the winter. plus the automatics have a winter mode which works great in my opinion. if someone hits me in the winter and my car gets totaled out then i just move on to the next crossfire. be brave people......be brave

I'm paying for it with my own hard earned money so I'll take good care of it. I have an ebay business.

I'm even going to wash it myself to make sure the paint lasts forever!

good luck in your search. investigate ins costs and repair costs to see if its what you really want. also a 300$ winter beater will be much cheaper than a single fender if you cant stop!

you have one of the top crossfire modders in the country right in your backyard. check out needswings.com

Thanks for the tip, is that place good for just mods or fair priced parts also?

Buy a honda civic, get chrome rims and those metal fender sticker things.
