My Valve cover is slowly leaking oil. Should I fix this? Is it most likely just the gasket? If so where can I order this online and is it easy to replace if i do it myself?

 

Common problem. Do a search here and you'll find instructions for what you need to do.

They say this is an "at home fixable" thing but I don't know that I'd tear into it.

How old is your car? The dealer did mine under warranty.

 

I had a bit of a leak only because my car sits for a couple weeks at a time. I am not doing anything with it. I think if a small amount that drips is normal. You will drive yourself crazy trying to stop the leaking but I don't think it will ever be 100% tight. Besides, I am also afraid that if I let someone try to fix the leak it will get worse

 

I have had my car for nearly five years, it sits in the garage for nearly five months a year and has never dripped a drop (dropped a drip?) of oil that's what I call normal.

 

I am sure your car drips a little oil. Try letting your car sit for 5 months and pop the hood after you first start it. See if you smell or see a little bit of smoke once the engine warms up. Trust me... it is there if you look hard enough. You won't see stains on the garage floor though. But a little drip is normal. You show me a car that sat for 3 weeks and I will show you the leak I will find it!

 

I don't mean minor seepage, I mean drips on the floor. All rotary seals leak a little otherwise the seal would not last five minutes. Gaskets may get a little blow by, no big deal but when it gets on our driveway paving my wife gives me heck even if it's her car that's leaking.

 

Agreed! I had an old car once that had a major valve cover leak. It was leaking on the garage floor and you could see the stains. That was a problem! I noticed in my crossfire that a little smoke does exist when I first start the car after long periods of sitting. Nothing on the garage floor. I won't even try to fix it.
