Default Seriously now.....

I know there have been posts on what VIN numbers are better...2000 #'s vs 10,000 # models.

Is there really a difference or are you guys just beating your chest? I'm thinking it's the later.

The VIN Numbers represent the production numbers, so a car built with the last 6 VIN digits in say the 1000's vs. the cars with a vin in the 6000's will mean the later is a car with more bugs ironed out than the earlier built car. ie The radio display issue, where the first built cars had a washed out display whereas the more recently built have had their units changed to one who's display isn't washed out.

Exactly... I just chose one of the highest vin numbers I saw at the time to hopefully avoid any of the earlier quirks/problems. So far I haven't had a single issue

NO, there really is no difference... I never said an early build number was better than a later build number, or vice-versa.

The topic said I was "just curious"...

Looks like the latest build number (or "newest" crossfire) in the forum is 15,XXX. Anyone have one of the first built?

#723........and for the most part ( all the important parts, engine, drive train ) no problems at all after 11k miles. Yes i did have the dim radio,
wind noise on door glass and rear hatch bumpers that needed adjusment but that was all and thay were all fixed more than 5k miles ago. Happy camper here except for all the S**t that flies up off the road and tries to ruin my babies good looks.

I just posted a reply to another question about production number. Not 100% sure about this but thought that my salesman told me I had #1000. Other than the dim radio display (of which I could care less, after I put in a CD I never look at it again) my car has had no issues at all.

What about that radio? Is there any reason to keep the old one? My number is 1457. I want to keep the car as original as it can be, for future value (as a 1st year car) but I dont know that the radio "display" will matter...any thoughts?

I had a similar concern, about changing the original radio, but I did last week. Big improvement in readablity during that day light hours.

The radio they now put in the car appears to be the exact same model, except you can now see the display. I don't think this change will effect the "originality" of your X-fire.

The replacement head unit is same model, it just has a fully functional display vs. the semi-functional you have now. I can't imagine anyone seeking an "original" Crossfire would place more value on the not-so-functional display of of your "original" head unit, but hey, there's weird people out there ya know...

Thanks all. I will probably go ahead and switch the radio. Dealer already got one in...Everyone was so upset with the "old" radio's, it must be bad. Someday, I may have time to drive the crazy thing!
