Default OIL Light

I just picked up my car on Wednesday night. Yesterday when I was driving it home the oil light came on. Car was brnad new had about 70 miles on it. Sounds strange. I called the dealer and remed him out so tommorow I am brining it in to see whats going on. If this were my old car I would just check the oil and add a quart, But not on this one I not touching a thing thats what the warranty is for. In the mean time i am going to drive the hell out of it until its fixed.

Just wondering if this happend to neone else.

Take it from me , someone who has had a few problems with the car. Start out with the "kill 'em with kindness approach". Save the reaming for when things get really bad...

Crossfires do not have a low pressure indicator.. only a low level light. Seems strange that a new unit would get by low on oil.. This was posted on Friday, any resolution yet?

Unfortunately by the time you noticed the temperature begining to rise the damage would have already been done.

ok, the guy already said he was going to drive it with the light on. what advice would you give him???

and, no, the real damage hasn't come till it get too hot and seizes-up. if he shuts it down as soon as the needle starts to move then he's probably just added some wear to the engine...far from a total loss.

Heat comes from friction, friction does not come from heat. Therefore by the time you notice heat, the friction is already present, that was my main point.

Friction results in extreme wear. So even though one might catch it before the engine siezes, he has still done a fair amount of cylinder wall / ring damage.

Simple solution, check the level of the oil.

Do it manually with the dipsitck. Pull it out, wipe it off, stick it in, pull it back out, and look.

- If you don't see oil, don't run the motor until you add some. 0w40 mobil one, go to the store, pick up 8 bottles and fill it up half a bottle at a time. Checking the dipstick after a minute to see if it shows up. (look for leaks under the car!)

- If it is at a normal level, there is one less thing to worry about. It could be a bad sensor, loose wire, loose ground, bad oil pump? You could drive it around, but you are taking a risk. Since the dipstick says its ok, check the oil level electronically. Read your service manual on how to do this!

If it was my car, I would have it towed to the dealership at the dealers expense. I would not start the vehicle or drive it.

Tempature is controlled by the coolant system. If the motor has gotten hot enough to surpass the coolant, the motor is not going to have a happy, or extended life.

If there was an oil pressure gauge, you could tell by that, but we don't. Factory oil pressure gauges are hardly accurate anyway.

Could just be a defective cluster display or electrical problem. If the oil is ok and there is no engine noise.
