Default Explorer - 1. Crossfire - 0.

So saturday afternoon I was headed back from my grandfathers memorial, spreading his ashes in the river he grew up on. I was headed down the highway by our outlet mall, when a guy in an explorer cut people off pulling out of the mall (coming up on a red light btw) when he noticed he was about to hit the car in front of him, he swerved into my lane (about 20ft behind stopped traffic)

I was braking for the car in front of me.. I had adequate stopping distance when he cut me off leaving me about 25ft between me and him (him promptly slamming on his brakes, stopping short of the car in front of him) I slammed into the back of him at about 15-20mph... He had a trailer hitch which made everything worse but had my car not been so low it probably would have set the airbags off (which didnt happen)

I have 2 witnesses attesting to the fact he cut off traffic, thereby causing the accident. I wasn't ticketed so thats a plus I guess, I'll leave it to the insurance companies to battle it out.

It doesn't look that bad but its bad. Front bumper beam is bent back about 4". Right front frame-rail is tweaked, drivers side headlight tabs broke... core support looks like a twizzler. Hood is done (obviously) hood support, etc. as are the impact foam, fog lights, the grille (look on the ground) horns, ac evaporator (condenser whatever) It also broke the radiator mounts, pushing the radiator back into the motor. I can't open the hood at this point since the latch is wrapped around itself but just what I can visibly see damage wise tallies up to roughly 5300 dollars, not including the labor, paint, etc. Not to mention there's probably going to be more once the front end comes apart the hood finally opens.

And my truck got totaled today.... middle car in a 5 car sandwich, thanks to a guy hauling a boat not seeing stopped traffic.

Ouch.... A bad couple of days..... Were you driving the truck when it got totaled? So.... Assuming they total the XFire out, what are you thinking you will replace it with? Good luck with the settlement.

And another one bites the dust. What are we at, 4 or 5 now in the past 2 weeks?

Probably could make a good amount parting it out though, the non-smashed up pieces though.

I really think we need stricter driving tests for reasons exactly like what happened to you. People are retarded sometimes.

Sorry for your loses all the way around. Unfortunately, even though you have witnesses that he merged into your lane; you hit him. I'm guessing at best it will be a shared guilt responsibility. I'm just bracing you for that. I hope I'm wrong. On the bright side; you're o.k., and now you can finally get that car that better suits you, one with better aftermarket support. Perhaps one that already has a turbo in it. Good luck.

I know, technically I did hit him but other factors added to the accident and those were noted on the report. I'll fight the insurance company left and right.

I'm not going to bother parting it out... its not worth the effort. I'll take my money and run to subaru, lol.

Damn man, sucks when you get into one accident. Seriously sucks when you end up with two of them in a short period. Glad you're not hurt. Sounds like the XFire is totaled.

Well... hopefully someone does and it get's saved from the crusher.

If you weren't ticketed for it, the insurance company probably won't find you at-fault. Did they ticket the other driver?

Same thing happened to my nephew in his Subaru STI. A guy diving in between him and the car in front rear-ended the front car & my nephew couldn't stop in time. The "diver" was at fault for impeding my nephew's braking distance. Good luck. Hope ur ok.

Are you saying that you were involved in 2 accidents this weekend? One with your crossfire and one with your truck?

I just test drove one of these yesterday and it has been a long time since I have driven a subaru, and I have to say, I was blown away. Granted it was an almost $40,000 car, but damn was it fun

I've never really liked the new body style. They took the raw feel of the car away with the 06+ cars. The 05s had the best suspension, motor mounts, dccd, etc.

I'd really like an 05 in white or black. Maybe An older m3 or m5 if I can find one.

LOL that is funny.

I went and drove one to see what all the fuss was about, and I have to say, it was a very fun car, was it ~$40K fun, not in my opinion

I simply dont like the new cars. The older STI's had this visceral feel when you drove them... it was an all out drivers car. The new ones feel way too refined and passenger car-like for my taste. Not to mention they dumbed down the DCCD and made the interior feel like plastic. 06+ is an STI I wouldn't own.

So now that I have two totaled cars in my driveway, I'm just waiting for my insurance to pay out for the truck and get the crossfire to the shop... I figure once all is said and done I'll have about 6500ish cash in hand that would make a rather nice down payment on something else.
