Default New and a Couple Questions

Hey guys, I've always loved the Xfires since I've first seen them. I got a couple questions and what not if you don't mind.

What are the different trim options for the xfire? I was looking on autotrader and noticed they would have a regular xfire and then some said limited? Basically I'm looking for a white or black coupe, no verts lol.

I was also looking at the srt6 and sadly I love the motor and power it makes... auto = not cool ... looks = not as good as a NA xfire (in my opinion)... so I guess that means I'm looking for a regular na xfire with the auto wing thing and sleek good looks... o and a 6 speed manual lol.

Also what are the common problems with the car and also is there a difference in the year modals or are they all the same? I'm just looking for general overview and information now. I want to go test one and possibly trade my 98 mustang in on one.

Thanks!
Mitchell

the 04 only comes in 1 model. coupe, in 05 they named it "limited" added the base model which has less goodies, and added the SRT.

'04s have a unique self dimming mirror and come with all the goodies.
'05 brought the Base model, the Convertible roadster and the SRT6 Supercharged.(for one year only)
After that, the cars are essentially the same. The only differences would be an occasionaly different component source for things like the Crank Position Sensor.

Buy one for miles and wear, not years. An '05 with low miles and good care will come as a bargain and be no different in looks, performance or reliability than an '08.

As to the members of this club, most of us could care less the year ot each others cars. They are that identical.

Buy an '04 or an '05 and drive it like you stole it. 'Cause you did.

roadster with a stick

PS, when you find a candidate, post it here and tell us what the seller says. These guys will be a great source of info to validate or repudiate any claims made.
Often, a member may even know something about the very car.

The base is a limited with lower trim. Drive train and most else is the same. Most of the lesser trim can be seen from in and on the cockpit seat. Base seats are cloth. There will be a little more plastic showing. Outside the base will not have the brushed window trim. You lose seat heater (which breaks anyway) and the passenger seat may not be power (If this is not true someone will yell and straighten this point out soon enough). Only those of us that have one can really tell, and as was mentioned, we don't care.

Shoot for the best maintained, lowest mileage one you can afford and join the club.

No. No one said that. The base is a limited with out some goodies. Like heated seats and fog lamps. Some other cosmetic itiems like a black painted windsheild surround.

Many of the serious modders like the base model because it is a lower cost platform and their plans include changing out some of the upgraded items of the Limited.
Seriously though, the differences between the Limited and the Base are inconsequential. ( With the possible exception of heated seats in the roadster)

However, be warned, most salesmen don't know squat about this car and will often price the base equal to the limited. There is a Base model red roadster insigniad "Special Edition" It is often priced higher than a comparable Limited. All because of the SRT style wheels. Be wary of that.

If theypush theNavigation system it is a lousy one and I don't believe updates are available. Discount that.

Crossies sell for 1/3 their Sticker prices, or less. The intrinsic value of a crossfire far outwheighs the sell price. Unless the resale value is important to you buy one that fits your needs.

Then drive the wheels off the thing.

Insurance is relatively high. Especialy for a car any insurance company will write off as a total around $10K
This on all models.

Since you have settled on an NA and want a stick, you can satisfy your "urge" for $8K to $16K and no one here will care about the difference in whether or not it is a base or aLimited. We have no caste system in the club.
Well, those SRT guys can be uppity

okay, my brain isn't want to wrap itself around this basically:

The base = Leather seats and brushed trim on windshield
Limited = cloth seats and painted trim + manual passenger seat?

If this is the case I'm gonna go with a base b/c I would like to have the leather seats ... and warmers are pretty nice anyway

I just really like this car because it's nice and classy with a lower price tag... plus I can't get over that 80% of the car is Merc. Benz lolz

backwards. Limited>base. Base has least options, then limited, then SRT is the Limited + Supercharger and other cosmetic mods

Well tell me this guys, what kind of performance stuff can you do to these cars? I've noticed some people putting M. Benz stuff on them like this one

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/263219...brighton-mi-us

I really like the fact it uses benz stuff etc.

Have you guys ever seen anyone do engine mods like cams, ported heads, intakes? Or maybe even turbo charging.

I was thinking of maybe a 100 shot of nitrous though, srt4 like performance but the looks of the NA ?

Also try www.cars.com, they usually have a nice selection, and also have the ability to search by Zip.

If you punch in unlimited miles by your Zip, it will show all XFires listed across the US of A.

And I completely agree, disregard the year, and go by mileage, a visual inspect, and a recent CarFax couldn't hurt, but don't take it as gospel.

Bottom line, do your homework, look for low mileage at the best price, and check in at the Forum for a sanity check, (before you pull the trigger)...

Good Luck...

Update: I just tried the search as I recommended above, and it came back with over 600 XFires listed for sale in the US. I was a little surprised by that number, I thought it would be somewhat lower...lol...

Mitchell where are you located? There's gotta be some forum members in your area that could show you their cars and discuss the differences. Mods on both the N/A and the SRT are very limited. Cold air, a few different exhaust systems, there are some performance chips. TVT has several tunes available that will get you more hp but for the most part there are not a lot of performance items for the N/A Crossfire. The car you are looking at has the Needswings Dual Cold Air and the Mercedes engine cover, the only one that fits after you install that cold air system.

I'll probably get hammered for this comment BUT...the manual in the X-fire is nothing to get too excited about from a purest standpoint. But if you absolutely must shift the gears yourself, nothing wrong with that!
