Default Could I take an e36 m3?

So here's the deal this kid is talking **** with his dads old e36 m3. He doesn't know how to drive and its an automatic. I feel that I am very good at shifting and can leave that part out of it. I have beat lexus is250s saab 95 and 93 aeros old golf gtis and cobalt ss to help you gauge my racing ability. I know that model m3 is better on paper but so are some other cars I have beaten. All I really want to know is if it is worth racing him and should I start from like a 30 MPH roll or a stop and stuff like that. Just let me know what my best chances of winning are.

P.S. I drive a bone stock 07 6-speed base coupe. with ~40,000 miles.
Thanks in advance!

If it's the 3.2 auto, all he has to do is floor it and he's gone.

I realize he should win haha. I just wanna know how I should set up the race for my best chances. And I realize the e36 m3 is faster but I think after eleven or so years of wear and compression loss that there should be some significant differnece in stock performance to now making it a closer race. Also how big is the difference in performance from the 3.0 to the 3.2?

Ignore him and move on. You are 17 years old and don't realize that if either of you race and kill someone your life is over because you will be in jail. I say this because you said he doesn't know how to drive. So don't even attempt to race anyone and find out the answer.

Now that is a different story. I am all for a couple cars racing on the highway with nobody around..... If you know what you are doing. But if you are not careful you may end up in jail. But a drag strip that is legal is a different story.

I only rarely do highway pulls with a group of close friends that are very serious and cautious. For people I don't know we do this drag strip. We also have a local non-functional airstrip we sometimes use. Any suggestions on the race?

I've taken on and won against a 2008 128i in 2 races. Did about a 1/3rd mile on a closed road. Pulled away after 3rd gear, was pretty even until then. I think that if the kid doesn't know how to drive then he doesn't know how to launch well...Try from a stop if it's at the drag strip.

04' NA AT Stock.

Thanks for the input that's what I was looking for. Hopefully you're right and ill pull out in the top end. And yea if its at the drag strip well have to start from a stop haha but if its at the airstrip well probably try both.

Look, I know I am old, but here we go....for what it is worth....it's a race...you have car, he has a car...if one has more HP than the other, then he has an advantage...just the way it is...line up, race, and the one at the other end first, wins....it's really that simple...I have been beaten by a farm truck, while outlasting vipers....it's just a race....but for some reason you win.....well, there's some braggin' rights right there, but if he wins, well, he is supposed to win...so no big deal....have fun....but when racing people with what are supposed be faster cars, only they can lose...if you understand what I am saying....the underdog never really loses, he just competes...

I totally understand what you mean and I appreciate your input. My father often uses a quote similar to that. Its just that I have never lost a race against my friends and I really don't want to lose my first time to such a ****** bag haha (excuse my language). Obviously in the end were just gonna line up the same way as before I'm just looking for suggestions on how to go about it. Anyway thanks again for all of your input!

If you are going to the track, there are a couple things you can do. Drop as much weight as you can.... The passenger seat is 50lbs. which will take .05 off you 1/4. Figure about .1 second for every 100lbs. dropped. Over inflate your front tires for less rolling resistance (45psi). Lower the pressure in the rear for more grip. If he is an inexperienced driver, you should be able to get him on reaction time. If it is a clear day with not much debris/bugs in the air, take the air filters out (be careful with this though.). I have beaten many a car that should have beat me. In the 1/4, the driver is a very big factor.

Ok, I will try to do most of this before if I can. I also plan on installing a few minor mods before we race such as a magnaflow cat-back, needswings cai, and eibach pro kit. Do you think any of these will make a signifacant difference. Also I noticed you live in Georgia. Do you recommend any tracks for relatively new racers in the Atlanta area. I live in Suwanee, about 40 min. northeast of Atlanta.

I generally race at Reynolds Ga. which would be a bit of a trip from north Atlanta. You will definitely see improvements with those mods, but you really need an ECU tune to get the most out of it. Give Tony a call at Buckhead Imports. He can get the tune done for you. Tony was the premier tuner for Eurocharged. If you are going to be running the NW CAI, disregard what I said about the air filter. You will need the filter on the NW CAI. You will get too much turbulence without the filter. With the NW CAI, you can remove the front grill for better air during the race.

^ Sounds good thanks. I will try to get in contact with him sometime in the next month. How much would an ecu tune run me along with the cost of labor for install of the other mods I had mentioned?

Not sure what he would charge. He did my ECU tune, but he was still with Eurocharged at the time. It would be best to call him and ask. Have you purchased the Eibach Pro kit yet? If not, I happen to have a set, and they are still brand new in the un-opened box. I can save you some money on them, and we could meet somewhere between Macon and Atlanta if you wanted to. Just let me know.

The cheapest I can find them on the internet is at TireRack for $245 plus roughly another $20 in shipping. If you want them for $175, they are yours.

That's extremely tempting but ill probably need to pass. On autoanything.com they go for about 135 so I wont ask you to go that low. I'm sure you'll have no trouble selling them at 175 though.

Now that would be the deal of the year at $135. I just went to autoanything.com, and they are listed for $276.95. Here is the link: Eibach Coil Springs, Eibach Pro Spring Set, Eibach Springs Pro System. If you found another way to get them from autoanything for $135, can you please provide a link. There are many people that would jump on them at that price. Thanks
