This board is FULL of stories of people suddenly being stranded due to NOTHING more than a battery. I had one that would turn the engine over, but as soon as the engine started, it would die. The car was towed to a garage ($80 for the tow) and they worked on the car an hour ($90) - and it turned out to be nothing more than a battery THAT TESTED FINE. (THis was in a Dodge Durango, but the point still applies.)
When the battery reaches 3 to 4 years of age, REPLACE IT! It's the INEXPENSIVE way out of a LOT of potential problems. I replaced mine over a year ago just because it was the original battery from 2005.
