I can't believe it. I'm in a state of shock. Overnight someone keyed and more my crossfire. Every body panel has scratches/dents. The rear hatch, and one of the small fixed side windows are broken, and the windshield is chipped.

Bringing it to the bodyshop now. I hope it's fixable... I know that others on the forum have said how little damage it took to total the car, and I really don't want to have to go through that.

Sorry to hear that. Honestly, who does that? Did they have any reasons? Still, if they had a reason they should go head to head, not be a chicken and harm the beautiful car. I hope it all goes well.

I'm not sure a new paint job will meet the total value of the Crossfire, but, sadly, it is dangerously close. Good luck with this.

Here in St Louis there was an unexplicable rash of car thefts and vandalism involving crossies.

One of our guys got hit. They found the carcass. The outcome wasn't good for him. It is an issue with a car than has such a rapidly, and I would suggest, artificialy accelerated depreciation.

But then, for the same reasons, a replacement can be relatively cheap.

Life goes on.

You have my permission to hunt them down and kill them. Well, maybe killing them is bit extreme. Just castrate them instead.

 

My son has had the same problem with his black tran am !!! Lots of crazies out there !! We had to put up a 2nd 2 stall garage just to keep everyones car safe at night !!! We live in the country about 125 feet off the road & still not safe !!!! Even in broad day light they mess with cars in parking lots any more !!! Dont know the answer hard to keep them safe !!!!

Goodluck bro! I had the same thing happen to me this last summer when someone keyed every part of my car and tagged gang signs on my car with spray paint or whatever it was. My insurance ended up totaling it out. A nightmare it was to go through the claim process.

Like you in a state of shock, I threw up when I saw my car vandalized like that.

Growing up in Brooklyn many, many years ago, my neighbor relays a story to me one morning that made my day.

He steps outside his house one late evening to have a smoke, looks down the block and sees some knucklehead using a slim jim on his car to gain access.

As he's quietly walking towards his car, there's a three (3) foot section of 2 by 4 sitting with my garbage, that he decides to borrow.

It wasn't a pretty sight what happened next, but it answered my question about all the flashing lites that late evening...

Timing in life, plus a little luck, can be everything...

 

Sorry...I guess I'm feeling somewhat lucky now. I was parked at a shopping mall last year away from everyone. When I came out,someone had busted out the glass from my passenger mirror. It was a easy fix. The replacement glass has a plastic framing on the backside that just pop's on. Squirrel Crusher

Are the scratches in the clear or into the paint? wet the scratch, if it goes away its buff-able. The headlights and taillights can be buffed eaisily too.

It seems more than a random vadalization, someone REALLY wanted to get their point across as they put alot of effort into getting every single body panel AND lenses/glass!

 

Jealousy is such a nasty thing, such a shame that someone would feel so low about theirself that they would do such a thing, SAD.

yep, this is killing me. I can't for the life of me think of anyone who would want to do this to me, but it certainly seems they went about it with a vengeance. Also, I live in a gated community, so it's not like just anybody could have passed by...

The thoroughness of the damage done astounds me - both bumper covers, both headlights, both tail lamps, windshield,1 piece windshield trim, liftgate glass, trim piece at front of hood, drivers side quarter panel glass. That's the stuff I believe will need to be out and out replaced. Then, they keyed and or dented EVERY body panel. OH - and keyed all four wheels! The paint is through the clearcoat and color, so no buffing it out.

Is it really possible to buff out the headlamps/tail lights? The scratches seem pretty deep, and I'd worry that they wouldn't be as good as new if they just buff 'em out?

I'm sick. I feel like I'm gonna throw up every time I think about it. I have babied this car, and I can't even describe how angry/frustrated/upset I feel...

I should know either tomorrow or monday what the total repair cost is - I checked on KBB and the retail value of my '08 is about 16,500 - god, I hope I don't go above the magic percentage my insurer uses to decide if it's totaled.

If it doesn't total out you can look at the bright side and talk to the bodyshop about a custom color change to make it uniquely your own for little to no cost out of pocket.

 

yes the lenses will buff out almost to new. Ive done it on cars that have been in accidents and youd be amazed at what an airpowered buffer andsome compound/polish will take out.

 

I've had similar things happen to me in front of my own house (I don't have a garage to park it in). On three separate occasions I've had a driver's side window smashed (guy broke in and stole a GPS mount, thought I was stupid enough to leave the actual GPS in there; the door was bent slightly on the outside where the window touches), had it keyed on the back left quarter panel behind the driver's door and on the back just left of the hatch, and the driver's side mirror was hit with something so that it broke the glass and much of the plastic inside and spun the housing around the wrong way (also broke the housing mount).

All of this stuff (besides putting in a new window) I fixed myself. The scratches never really came out completely, but it looks better.

Unlike you, I know there's someone out to get me and have a good idea who it is, I just can't do anything about it (legally) since I've never caught them in the act. Or so says the police. I just park my car 2 blocks away now where I know they won't go. It's worked for a year now.

Either way, I feel your pain and know the shock walking out and seeing something like that. Obviously none of mine have been as bad as what happened to yours, but the feeling is the same, just more intense for you. It really blows when you have no idea who could have done it or why.

Some people are cowards. If someone goes out and damages someone else's property instead of facing that person directly, they have no guts and need a good smack in the face with a baseball bat. Or a few.

 

I agree with shapeshifter. People who will destroy your car, call you names on the internet, are at the top of the coward list. If they can't face you in person, then, cowards they are. Problem is catching a coward. They are one of the fastest species on the planet once hunted. They can run faster than any deer, hide better than any animal known to mankind.
