Default Getting A New Xfire Coupe - Recommendation Before Buying!

Hi guys!

I live in Quebec Canada and I should buy a used 2004 Crossfire Limited Coupe, 6 speed manual, next week.

I have done the outside & accessories inspection and road test.

So far only the cup older does not open on a simple push, I need to tweek it a little. Any tip on how to resolve this? I also heard a little ''cccrrrr"" when I engage the second speed but not every time, maybe I need to get use to this shifting.

This is a dream car that I am getting and I do not want bad surprise. I am buying from a local used car dealer.

Next week will be the mechanic inspection before finalizing the deal.

I want to get in touch with the previous buyer and find where the car was doing the maintenance.

Any tip on what I should pay more attention for the inspection?

Your experience would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

This is a question that crops up quite often and I'm afraid that people are getting a bit blasé about answering the question again.

Take your time and check every accessory and feature. Locks, windows, heated seats, a/c, etc. If it has an owner manual, look through it for guidance. Check the engine for oil leaks. Get service records if possible. The first to second gear shift often is a little notchy or sticky, if that is what you mean. It has not gotten much better on my roadster after 35k miles but I know how to ease it into gear most of the time. Keep in mind that this is basically a 03 Mercedes Benz SLK320 under the skin so if you can take it to someone who works on M-Bs for an inspection, it may be worthwhile.

When you have it inspected, pull the oil splash pan under the engine (just a couple of screws).

Look up and if there is oil under the engine, or an excessive amount of caked up oil in the splash pan, most likely the valve covers are leaking.

This is not a show stopper and is a common problem on these engines.

(I have the issue on mine, with only 13k miles on it).

But if it's there, why not have it fixed on their dime before you seal the deal...

Why not sending us some picture, km and price. We could tell you if it's a nice deal.

I live in Montreal and got a pretty good idea of what the market got for sale. I just bought my roadster 4 weeks ago.

Was previously having a 2004 limited coupe.

If you find some, make a big deal about it, and maybe they'll knock some $$$ off the sale price.
Then buy it and fix it yourself, it's a simple and inexpensive repair.
Good Luck

There was a conversion for the cup holder to a storage tray but I'm not sure it is still available.

Tks everyone for your comments. The car is a 2004 Limited Coupe with 70K (km), minor rock hit on the paint, no big deal. All accesories work well, except for the cup older that open once in a while. Summer tires are new. I took it for a road test and was handeling great. I noticed little rust apperance (surface) under the hood, only under the hook that is attached to the hood that can be easely fix, and at the tail gate where the water drain (some kind of metal joint), also it can be easely fix. I guess the car have seen some winter! I negociate the price at $10 500 CAD which is very good I think. I have schedule a 100 point service check at a local Chrysler dealer tomorrow and based on the result, the dealer should do the repair (if some) and I will be a SUPER HAPPY new owner of this collection car for many years!

Oh yes, forgot to say that the tire pressure signal was on, but I did not check the tire pressure before doing the road test. At what pressure does it suppose to turn off? I guess I should not make a big deal out of it. This should be a gadget with no reliability...

To the OP...... had I did my homework as you have before buying my 2005 Limited Coupe 38K miles (12/27/2010)..... and know some, if not all the issues I've come across several days after.... either the Chrysler Dealership would have fixed ALL or I would have walked away from it. But I can't undo what is done now..... hopefully the dealer will make most, if not all the issues right...... what concerns me the most at this point..... the limited availability of various replacement parts, and or length of time to get them, if at all possible...... from what I have been reading.

Take your time, read the various sections and threads in this forum, and make an educated decision......... Good Luck, and enjoy your XFire if you decide to put your name on the dotted line.
