MB Service Charge
Ok, so my dad took his NA Crossfire with 45k in for a service at an MB Dealership. I nearly fell off my chair when he said what his service cost was! $1403.
The $1403 included the following : -
Brake Pads - $310
Air Filters - $163
Battery Replacement - $280
"B" Service - $650
I fell like going in there yelling and screaming RAPE!, RAPE! at the top of my lungs.
Seriously can anyone be trusted with servicing our cars for a reasonable price??
Thanks for reading my rant, just had to let it out!

G'Day,
I see you are in Australia. Sounds like your MB dealers rip people off over there just as they do here. Actually all dealers rip you off over here. Best to fnd a good independent shop that services german cars.

I'd say do what you can that's within your capabilities on your own and then leave it to the dealer (or a good independent shop) to do the rest. You could have saved yourself at least a few 400 dollars by installing the battery, doing the oil and installing the filters yourself.
Still, I wouldn't feel too bad about all that was done for that price, especially if MB did it. At least maybe they knew what they were doing with the car -- and it should be road worth for another 50K miles.
No Worries
I bought my Crossfires to drive, look at, clean and polish and to work on. They are designed to be serviced. I do the service. My battery cost is under $100. my oil change is under $50, Mobil 1 15/50. Then there is Waxoyl, On steel, wiring, leather seats and fabric top. No rust/deteroration . I do have a hoist, tools and experience. It's fun. Brakes are easy.

like another member said, your better off finding a shop specializing in german cars to do it, idk how many of you are in NJ but I take my limited coupe over to AUTOBAHN AUTOMOTIVE, they specialize in mercedes, audi and porsche and they are MUCH more reasonable than dealers. there has to be some shop like than in Australia
Good thing none of you are in the trucking business. You'd die after you see what my service costs. Dealerships have their rates posted. They tell you up front what is it going to cost. If you have the ability to do it yourself, then great. But what I have learned being on this site for a time now, is, not everyone has the ability or the time. If that is the price they charge, then so be it. And, down under, things cost a little more. Hell, on any island where things have be brought in by boat or air, it costs more. That had to be one top of the line battery though, lol.
Battery replacement quote from Chrysler was somewhere around 200. I didn't pay because they managed to get it under warranty. Air filters are way too expensive. I did it myself and I think the filters were 40 or 60 dollars for the pair. I forget!
$600 is pretty standard for a "B" at a MB dealership. That is what my wife pays for her Mercedes but I need to add the service is done right with a loaner.
you guys are lucky....at least in the states an mb dealer will work on your x-fire. in ontario, canada they will not work on a chrysler.....not even an oil change. actually when i went to the mb dealer to discuss possibly doing some work on my '05 ....i was asked to remove the chrysler from their lot. now talk about being successful.....when they can turn away business.
i am not sure which is more insulting....being gouged on the price of the work....or....refusing to do the work.

The stealership wanted $182 for a driver side fog light that I needed. But they got me when I changed the brake pads myself and they would make alot of noise when I would stop the car. They cut the rotors or w/e they do to them and charged me $200 usd just for cutting the rotors, ofc the noise stopped. I guess there still mad when I got the car they offered me like ten oil changes for around $200-300 so I signed it right away and paid. Then when I took the car in for first oil change they didn't want to honor it. So I told the service manager I would call my lawyer to handle the matter, b4 I could turn around and leave he said he would do it. I lucked out.
teacher friend of mine dropped off her mini van in for 20,000 mile service , went to pick it up had a $1500 bill !!!! Weclome to world of stealerships !!!!! I only go for warranty work !!!!! If possible !!!!
We just got our 06 VW NB Ragtop back from local VW Service Center. They had to replace the entire timing chain system (under warranty, thank God!) because a tensioner failed and the car 'jumped time'. I don't even want to know what that would have cost me!
But while it was in the shop, they wanted to change the spark plugs because the car had nearly 60k on the odometer. I said okay. When I picked up the car yesterday (they had it for a week), the spark plugs were $15.46US each!!!!!!!
I could have bought all 5 for that!!!!!
I told the Service Tech Writer that they ripped me off with that pricing, paid the bill and left. I also don't like the fact that all service shops, dealer or independent, always add a Shop Supplies Charge ($3.87US) for the rags, towels, hand cleaner, and whatever else they use while working on the vehicles. That surcharge always rubs me the wrong way!!!!
They should just bury it in the mark-up somewhere so we as customers don't have this brought to our attention.
Hopefully, the plugs will wear the car out and I'll sell it before I have to change them again. By that time, I won't remember that those NGK's (with the VW/AUDI logo on them) were that expensive.

To make matters worse, the local Chrysler dealer has been a Dodge dealer for years and only taken on Chrysler in the last year or so, so that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy at all.
