Default Radiator fan runs on when engine is cold

Yesterday evening I went into the garage an hour after turning the car off and heard a strange humming sound -- it was my SRT's radiator fan going full blast. Engine was cold, starting and turning off did not help. Only disconnecting the battery made it stop. Any ideas what causes this?

Thanks,

David

My first thought would be the fan module is defective but it would require some diagnoses.
