Default Squeaky Suspension

Man, this is driving me crazy!

A couple of days ago, a loud, annoying squeak started in the rear of my car. Checking it out later, it clearly sounds like it's coming from the right, rear suspension, near the top. It squeaks when I go over bumps, or rock the car. I opened the hatch to make sure that wasn't it - although I fixed that rattle already (thanks to the forum).

Anybody run into this? A bushing or something?

One of my other cars tent to squeak when it is cold out. Could it be the cold weather?

That was kind of the impression I had. We had several days of single digit highs and below zero lows.

Mine squeak at 15 or 20 degrees. When it went back up to 70 everything was fine.

Sorry to say but it is one of the bushes that needs replacing. 100Ł incl. Install at the mechanics. I did it on both rear tires on my old n/a.

Chicago roads...hell, everything in my trucks rattles now. No wonder that city is always under destruction.

I have had the same thing happening since mid summer last year on the same side. Does anyone know which bushings need replacing?

It was one of the bigger ones with metal ring in it. Common error when car runs in all four seasons of weather. Changed one summer left side, other summer the right. The current owner is on the forum so he should be pleased I changed them already don't do it yourself, too difficult and springs flying all over the place is a risk I would not take.

I could call the mechanic who did itg but I think it is called the lower inner .. bush.. large rubber bush with iron ring. Apparently a hell to exchange. If you have all tools and such you will be able to do it. It is the most annoying sound ever. sounds like the car is 100 years old and not a sportscar.

all the best!

Update on this old thread ...

I still get this squeak every winter. This winter, it has just been the right rear. I was telling a couple of the techs in my shop about it, told them I had crawled under there and sprayed lube on everything that moves, but it's still there. One of them was sure it was from a bushing on the sway bar. They put the car on the rack, lubed that and everything else the could get their hands on. They went so far as to take things apart, lube them, and put them back together.

Of course, the squeak didn't go away. They concluded it's coming from the top of the spring, whatever that sits in. Looking at the parts list, I see there is a part that goes there called a Spring Isolator (part# 05102308AA, 05102311AA, or 05102312AA - not sure what the difference is). At this point, I am pretty sure that is where the problem is. I won't know until I can get the part and get it put in.

The Spring Isolater is a rubber pad which your spring sits in. They come in different thicknesses which is why there are different part numbers. I have changed mine to help fine tune the ride height. They are not very difficult to change.

You need a spring compressor though, right?

Was there a resolution to this? I'm experiencing the same croaky squeak in my rear end. (posted this in similar thread too)

After much hair-pulling I discovered that my rear squeak was a bad bushing. This despite lubing every bushing I could find and a garage telling me that they couldn't find the problem. I left it in with a Mercedes specialist and he diagnosed it almost instantly.

You can read my thread on it here:

Had the same problem in my 04. The driver side rear squeaked with almost no effort. I took it in to the dealership and they told me it was a bad bushing in the knuckle. There is only the one bushing inside the spindle. Chryslers quote was $1800. We picked the rear suspension apart to get to this bushing. Picking it apart was relatively easy. Everything will be held together by the shock, the suspension drops out of the way. The bushing was not worn, but dry. We stuck a grease needle into the bushing and gave it 2 or 3 squirts. No noise since!
