Default chrome windshield surround question

Hi all, Im trying to decide wether to paint my surround to match the car or spend bukoo bucks for the chrome surround. Wondering though, does it REPLACE the factory silver one or is it an overlay; and if it is an overlay, does it lay flush to give it a factory look?

I found a seller that has them for 299 & free shipping. Any place cheaper you know of?

Pooly

It's an over lay, it does lay flush.

I have seen it done and it looks good....thinking of doing the same for mine. My dilemma is, while the painted surround sets your Crossfire apart from others...the OEM surround sets it apart from other cars out there....what to do, what to do...? Still undecided...

Not quite true...our old Solstice had the same matt silver window surround.

Pooly,

Any interest in doing something a little wild? I did mine the hydrographics carbon fiber and it looks amazing. Not exactly cheap either, but very different and a subtle touch. I am not sure if they do a red carbon fiber, but that might look really good on your car like the standard CF looks on my gray coupe - you don't see it from 10 feet away, then when you get closer, it pops at you.

I did mine in House of Kolor's, kosmic Krome. It Looks pretty good. I wanted something that looked like the interior s satin chrome. This was a perfect fit. It looks expensive. I also did the side strakes and door handles the same way. Soon I hope to do the console and possibly the grille.

No, I haven't taken a picture of it since the vandals got it. Dunno why, just haven't. The Falcon has been laid up in a body shop for four years now. But it's sure gonna be slick when she's done.

I like your cf. Im trying to eliminate varations on the car though. Since I got my rims nothing seems to blend quite right. I was thinking of painting surround and door handles graphite but it looked ugly when I photoshopped it. I want to go with chrome, a touch of graphite (slasher stripes and rims) and then blaze red...but chrome is too expensive for what you get

You have been saying this for over 6 months with no pictures, I say - prove it.

(and I really want to see how it looks)

Yeah, I know. Finding the time to clean the car up for another photo shoot with the short amount of home time I get greatly depreciates my picture taking priority. And after this ordeal I really don't find my girl nearly as attractive since the... uhmm... violation. Maybe if I bought her some new shoes?

I think the OEM silver or aftermarket chrome looks great on the roadster. And in fact, it's fairly common for a roadster to have a silver windshield surround, but I just don't like that look on the coupe. It takes away from the lines of the car, IMO I should say, it's more of a distraction from properly seeing the lines of the car. I have a ubiquitous black XF and painted the surrounds body colored. I still have the silver surrounds, but I will likely never go back to those.

If I was you, I'd probably go with the body colored surrounds. No offense to anyone on this board who fits the following description, but a chrome surround on a fixed top sports car is a bit too old man for me. Next thing you know, you;ll be starting a thread about what color landau roof to put on the car!
