I still love old cars built in the classic American tradition. When I was growing up, I had a neighbor who collected 50s Packards. I hope the attachment worked - -wish this was mine. 1930 Packard at last year's Grand Rapids MI car show on the million dollar row.
I was watching RM Auctions on the HD Channel the other nite, and a 1940 Blue Packard sold for $2.9 Million.
I can't remember the Model, but I think it had 160 hp.
Replacement value for insurance must be a hefty premium...lol...

The most valuable 1940 Packard is probably worth two hundred grand. I recall a 1932-1934 Packard that recently sold at RM for more than 2 or 3 million. It would have had a 12 cylinder engine.

The broadcast in question was not from this year's RM Auctions in Scottsdale, but rather from their 2006 auction at the same location. The car sold was the one shown at RM Auctions (you might have to click one of the numbers further down as the images aren't coming up). The price shown on that web page, $3,190,000, includes buyers premium so the $2,900,000 price mentioned by Kodebuster was the hammer price.
RM did sell a '33 Sport Phaeton this year in Arizona at $1.76 million (obviously not the same car at all!) and nothing in that price category for a Packard at Amelia recently. I was at the Scottsdale auction (we sponsor the RM Auctions as well as Barrett and Russo & Steele) but I was not in attendance at Amelia Island. Pity.
Hi Mike
I think we've met. I served on the Meguiar's Award committee for several years before the award was dropped.
Anyway, when I said "recently", I meant within the past year. The linked speedster went back to General Lyons, whom Lee bought it from. Lee still owns a real one (only 4 built). If one of the real speedsters were to go up for auction today, I suspect that the price would be in the $6-8 million range.

It was Blue, and I thought they said 1 of 5 built.
Sorry for any confusion if it was an old show, but it was the first time I had seen it...lol...
