I take I-287 too but I feel like ever since I got the car I'm always in heavy volume. I found enough gap to get up to 95 one day but I can never open up. I'll keep tryin though...goal is 135! 8)

110 going north on I-10...caught up with some traffic, and when the traffic cleared up...the bottle story. Will open her up again when I get back.

Haha, first weekend with the bosses crossfire, I took it to houston and back. Locked it in at 135 coming back on 45. I love that long streach of road. Loved the ride so much I got mine a month later. =)

Just got back from my trip, and got to take her back down to Tucson. Because of this thread (ya'll are a bad influence) I found a stretch where it was all me and opened her up, and had it at 138 or so for about three miles. She handled it beautifully, and I bet I could have gotten more out of her had I not been climbing a hill (The trip to Tucson from Phoenix is a gradula slope increasing about 1500 feet in elevation) and had 250 pounds of luggage in the trunk.

By the way, I named her "Christine" - Christine the Crossfire. Low, dark, sleek...deadly.

as long as we are on the subject, does anyone have stopping distance figures for the very high speeds??

i spent some time around highway design, years ago, and i recall that the standard is something like "line of sight = 1 1/2 X stopping distance of average veh. at 80mph". that may not be exactly right but it's something like that.

it's funny, state law here is based on some funny formula like "the speed at which 80% of the cars travel".

anyway, i'm curious about high-speed stopping characterists, distances etc. i would expect that the short wheel base would add to the excitment if you have to lock it up at speed.

Hi Houstondan,

I don't have any numbers yet...since I wanted to give the girl proper time to get broken in before we go for a little highly unlawful speed test.
But I would not think that the wheel base will cause too much excitement since ESP/ABS and the BAS should help keeping the ends from swapping. In all that they may however cause just a smidgen longer distance to a complete stop.

you're right, i would expect the computer to try to moderate whatever happened. i really would like to hear from anyone who has had to lock it up at very high speeds just to get an idea what to expect. i would experiment but throwing the full anchor out at 130 could get expensive. from everything i've seen so far, i do expect the car to behave well.

Man I wont even post my speeds in fear of someone yelling at me... but today I was going rather insane through traffic to catch up to a white Crossfire... he barely looked at me once i finally did... WTF... why do all the Corvettes all salute eachother and such but EVERY Crossfire I see on the road looks at me like im a piece of dog ****... I'm serious too.. In Michigan this car is being popular... I see them often and NO ONE RESPONSE ... is it because im young? I know im not ugly... wtf..

anyways... at 100+ speeds I cant believe how AMAZING this car handles!! I tried the same stuff with a Loaner PT while I was getting my brakes done and WOW! nope... can't hold up as well at all!

It seems at those high speeds it rides even smoother then my friends 2003 vette!!

If/When I ever see one while I'm driving I'll probably wreck my car trying to get his attention. I've still only seen 3 and non while I was driving my Crossfire. I'm really begining to think that the "Stealth/Cloaking Mode" is real! :?

Ive been 130 or slightly over. It was great, just didn't have enough road to keep going higher. Cops would lap up anyone going over 100 for sure so it makes it pretty risky.

Hey Bobafettm, those state police are pretty tricky in Michigan, huh? I once got a ticket driving back from Monroe to Allen Park in 2000. I had a Cavalier as a work car and I must say those state police love to hide on bridges and then they pounce on you quickly. I was used to Texas and was unpleasantly supprised by their aggressive style. Needless to say I love being back in Texas although Michigan was interesting. As far as the reason the other Crossfires don't wave is either because you are young (wish I was) Or because they were thinking they were the only one on the road with a Crossfire? Maybe.... I dunno. By the way, you new avitar had me in stitches (grin) does James get on your nerves that much? He keeps Wes going for sure.

P.S. Bobafettm (hey, were's my bliss wallpapers with the Crossfire you promised me

Here in the UK youhave to be careful because the police are pretty hot on speed but .... I was travelling down the M5 motorway between Birmingham and Bristol when another XFIRE came into view at speed. Not wishing to be outdone I accelerated from the 100mph I was already doing and pulled into the middle lane. The other XFIRE came alongside as if to say... OK come on then lets go for it ... so we did. The last time I looked at the speed it was registering 150mph ... but what a drive.

Late for a Dentist apt, I hopped on the highway and passed a late-model
pickup with a couple of guys eager for a challenge. I could see them speed up and try to come up behind me. Fat chance. I excellerated to about a 105 and they didn't seem to want to play over 100.

This is as fast as I've been. I'm dreadfully afraid of tickets, having
gotten so many in my younger days. But at 105 it handles like you're
only going about 70. I was amazed at how effortlessly it sails past
100.

This thread was started by a cop, you are all under arrest. Thank you for attesting to your speed and site of the violation.

In Connecticut I haven't found too many opportunities with sufficient amount of road but have managed 120 for a few miles and it felt very comfortable.

I got to 115 yesterday on I-10 outside of Phoenix on the way to Tucson. Had a buffer of cars in front of me to give my radar detector a chance with instant on. Anyway, kept it up there for a few miles until I caught up with the group. Was amazed at how it handled, not a flinch at all. But in the final analysis, I have to admit it wasn't a big deal.... I want to find some curvy roads where I can really work the car. Driving fast in a straight line doesn't do it for me.

I am still waiting to pass 105-110 but I never have enough room. The NJ highways are always busy I guess. The worst part is I could get out of any tickets since my dad's a cop but I never have the chance! 8) But it does handle well at high speeds. I always feel like I'm doing 30-40 miles less per hour than I really am. My mom's E class had the same feeling...maybe it's German magic!

Whee!

Took a drive to L.A. and back this last weekend, and got 'er up to around 140.

Silly little Mitsubishi Spyder decided to try to show off by passing me on the right at about ~100. Never even made it halfway past...

The car drives like 55 at 140... it's amazing. The only other car I think I ever took up that fast shook like it was about to fall apart, but the Crossfire just purred and asked for 150. Next trip.

about 120, right after I picked it up on I-75 just north of Tampa, found my self doning 90 - 100 without realizing it. seems the faster you go the better the car feels ... smooth. Bought a Radar Detector the next week. Can't help but to cruse about 90, the car just goes their by it self
