if i were to sell or trade in my purchased crossfire after 39 months i would need to get around $16K for it to have spent a comparable amount of money to the lease example above. that includes the $750 or so in additional taxes i paid to register it for the full purchase amount. most of the lease residuals are in the $17-20K range so i should come out a little bit ahead of the lease deal. but if wholesale values drop below $16K i would be losing money compared to the lease over the 39 months. if i keep my crossfire for 10 years i would undoubtedly be way ahead of the lessee financially, but i might not enjoy my 10 year old ride as much as the lessee would his new one.

one thing that i was thinking about for those who are leasing - when it comes time to replace your tires, it might be a good idea to avoid the michelins in favor of a tire with longer treadware. they're great tires, but if they don't last at least 20K miles, you'll end up replacing tires for the next driver at the end of your lease. i bet that three years from now someone will complain that they had to do this. i would imagine that those with the continentals should get by with replacing tires once.

If you're going to nickel and dime ,its' how much it cost is irrelavent, because all cars are a loss, gas, oil, tires, resale, taxes, and if you want to drive a newer car.If you want cash out or in your own investments.to me the less you have in the car the more you enjoy the time you use it.There is a good lease that's the point.D.C. is doing their lease thing !It is safer than a purchase at the point in time!It may change, but not in the near future.

Let's see if I can make this read correctly.

My residual is a bit over $20k and my payment is $305 + sales tax. The interest rate is so close to zero percent that I won't even look it up. At the end of the lease I can pay a $300 fee and walk away or I can buy/finance the car for the $20k residual.

However, if the actual value of the car is much less (say $15k) I should walk away... and then come back in a few days and buy the same car for $15k and save the $5k difference. The dealer knows this too. I have not run a lease before, but several folks have told me that the dealer WILL re-negotiate the terms at lease end in this situation. 8)

Since I couldn't convince myself that I would really want to keep this car after 3 years, I see this as a perfect way to leave me a simple out. If I leave I will have paid $14.5k for 39 months of fun driving and no interest costs. The total of sales taxes at this point will have been only $1200.

Not necessarily... I am sure your monthly payment is alot higher than $299, or else you put alot more money down. So, after 39 months you may owe less than the car is worth, but you probably paid alot more than a lesee over the 39 months too.

Just purchased a black roadster and one dealer in our area has only 2 coupes left while the other dealer has about 10. Dealer #2 is also concerned that the coupe sales will slip even more now with the roadsters hitting the lots.
The incentives on coupes will probably very enticing in the very near future.

Ok, in the final analysis this boils down to the purpose for which you acquired the vehicle. Forget crunching the numbers. Pleasure, weekend good weather driving, not a primary mode of transportation, etc. A car to purchase. The mileage will stay low, condition good, and probably hold it value nicely.

I too would lease any vehicle that I planned to " Drive The **** Out Of"

I think it's on the bottom now tha's my point, but, dealers can use the xs' to bring in buyers with even alittle lower price but, D.C. is likes to control with lease programs it's in their history. The EVO8 price and car is in the U.K. only!Remember U.s. prices are always lower because ,they have to keep their market share up!Or people won't buy their products, snowball effect!

monthly payment $0 . after 39 months i will have paid $29K plus tax. in effect, i have paid almost exactly twice what it would cost to lease (based on the best advertised lease deal), but i will also have full equity in the vehicle (whatever that is 3 years from now)

but i do agree it is one heck of a lease deal. especially since you can get into a crossfire lease for much less than the competiting vehicles. i would have considered leasing but i wasn't sure whether i was going to keep my beater vehicle around (for mileage considerations).

lots of good points on both sides 8)

I will bet that your equity will be whats' left of your total cost whatever you can sell it for based on 40,000 miles if you don't park it! About $15-17,000,same the lease .Without having the money in the car to get it out of!That's why they have leases!
