hey guys and gals,

ive been reading many posts where ppl are saying that the n/a crossfire is no where near fast, and it was starting to rain on my parade, bc i thought it was pretty fast, not srt fast but speedy (and i know many of you are going to say if i want fast buy an srt6, and sell my car and buy an srt but im not so dont say that please) now keep in mind i do have mods but nothing too drastic, and recently ive been instigated to race by cars that after reading threads on this forum i figured i would get romped on by..

however, i was cruising in the right lane and a loud srt4 neon pulled up beside me and shook his head as if to say "wow that little thing is garbage" well i thought that was a big insult so i dropped it into 2nd gear and he did three beeps, and i pulled on him 3 out of 3 times.

other wins (that i have videos of)

cobalt ss/sc not stock from a 50 roll
late model mr2 spyder not stock from a dig
new 335i TT from a dig
pontiac g6gtp coupe from a dig and two 50 rolls
mini cooper s from a dig
solstice gxp from a dig and 40 roll

i have videos of these on my phone and will get them up once i go to walmart and buy a memory card for my phone.

i felt like a dad who just watched his son hit a homerun in little league, i love my crossfire and i am proud to own one, and even if i lose a race we still beat all these cars on looks this all took place on rt 37 in toms river, if you live in ocean county you will know that rt 37 has car meets everynight and ppl driving up and down all day looking for races. there were others but i have no videos as proof so i wont waste time

ps. i know srt6 are faster and i should buy one and no, not all of the cars had bad drivers

Our NA cars are not dragters or street kings. But they do a respectable job. Especially under the right hands. Their real star power comes on in the twisties. Most musclecars can't hold the line thru a good set of turns.

The Crossie is a well balanced machine that executes most things well, but not all things exceptionaly well.

The SRT is a brute by comparison, I believe the only thing badged Chrysler that is faster would be a Viper.

Having both in my stable, I can tell you the difference is amazing. On the quarter mile, Crumpy beats me by 7 car lengths. And she is not even trying.

Glad you won some races, congratulations. Remember to be safe out there.

An 80 year old nun behind the wheel of the 335i would smoke a modded NA. 0-60 is over a full second faster, so not sure how that one went down. My boss has one and I have a modded NA, we run pretty regularly. Stock, he would walk away, but with just a tune, he increased over 80 HP and will smoke the crap out of me...

1 or 2 seconds faster not a big deal, most people lose it on the line !!! Getting a jump off the line is everything !!! Won & loss many a race that way myself !!! love a good light to light race or longer !!!!

As a rule, I've learned not to race people from a dig, or a roll. Not unless I'm borrowing Steve's 32 AMG...

From a dig, the 6-speed's gearing is so short that you're shifting while they're still accelerating. From a roll, the N/A motor loses steam fairly quickly. It's no dog -- not by any means -- but it's certainly not fast enough for me to antagonize (or even oblige) races on the interstate.

The good news for me is, I didn't buy the car for street racing... I bought it to be a head-turner and a car that I could stand to drive daily.

And as Franc said, the real "strength" in this car is the ability to be balanced and poised in the corners. Healthy amounts of torque low in the RPM range, and the tight turning radius yield some fun (and surprisingly quick) times in the curvy bits. I have challenged several "more powerful" cars that would walk me on the straights, to a little dance in the curvy, hilly roads in TN. And 9 times out of 10, I lose sight of them in the rear-view mirror.

I leave the interstates to the big boys... the Crossfire's home is on the Dragon, the Hellbender, Moonshiner 28, etc.

And the best part? Seven years later, it still looks like nothing else on the road. It still turns heads, counfounds the masses, and prompts questions. And people who don't know any better still think it's a $30,000+ car.

Noisy S2000's and Z-cars don't get that same mystique, regardless of their "speed".

I own SRT6 auto and NA Stick shift. Both handle the roads I run with aplomb.I have not and will not mod for power. I have enough. Gary

That 335I must have been spinning wildly off the line, that would be the only way to beat him. When they hook up, they are gone. Congrats on your wins! I miss driving on 37 around Tom's River. I'm familar with the area since I grew up in Jorsey through out all my school years.

Amen brother! I love my crossfire for what it is. A real cool looking car in my opinion, which doesn't look like everything else out there on the road and as you already mentioned it gets lots of attention and stares wherever it goes.
Yes the car is no Porsche and I'm sure the SRT6 is lots of fun, but me, I love the little car and it can take off when it needs to and that's all I'm asking for.
For me there's no need to waste gas or put other drivers in danger because a couple of kids felt the need to compare d1cks! Besides, I'd be pissed if I crashed my crossie

Jason, the original 335i had a twin turbo 6, but the last year or two, they switched to a single, larger turbo. The 335i is a forced induction vehicle, but maybe someone had a 328i and that would have been a great race.

I like racing mine too, but I had a few too many tickets and have taken up autocrossing. I have a driving school this weekend about an hour from the house and a full day of open course with an instructor to ride along and help me get better. Whatever your passion, do it the best you can and be safe, because as we all know, these things get totalled for almost no damamge at all....

Had an awesome autocross school this weekend, lots of instruction and seat time.

NJ has to have an SCCA chapter up there....

Correction - they have 2, check these out and see what kind of events they have available, and my guess is you will have a few left this season to get some experience....

North - Northern New Jersey Region - Sports Car Club of America

South - South Jersey Region, SCCA

Good luck out there.

I feel pretty much the same. The car is plenty quick, fun to drive, out handles most things on the twisties and is definately still a looker and attention getter. I even get looks from those driving Porches and other exotics.

For me, I use it as a daily and love it. I also bought it so my wife and I had an excuse to head out without the kids on a cruise - or to a cruise-in with other car lovers. For now, it will see plenty of regular action. In the future, I hope to scale it back some and use it primarily on the weekends.......but it will get action

ever since i re- did my tailights i have had many "gawkers" look at my car and think it is an exotic supercar!... last night i was walking back to my car at the boardwalk with my girlfriend, and there was two men and a kid my age standing taking pics of it! i casually opened the door for my gf and got in and drove away feeling like an A list celebrity

Johnny knows I love to play when we are out on a long stretch of interstate. But keep in mind, unless you have $$$$ in your pocket to spend. You will never see what it will reallydo. Don't let those cruisers bate you. I made a lot a money at your age, just letting people pull me by a few cars lengths. When the $$$ were put down, so was my right foot. Stay safe street racing....you really need to go to a track.....
