Default Happy Fourth Of July!!

Happy 4th every one!!!

Lets us all remember exactly what this day means. It's not just about the parades, kids in the park eating ice cream and hot dogs, car shows, band stand music all day, or the fireworks tonight. These are ALL very fine and fun things to do this day, and I hope every one has a chance to do them all.

No, today is the 239th anniversary of when We as a People told our oppressors to go and shove it. Let us not forget what our Fore Fathers did, to the powers at be, they were traitors!
They told them we would not stand for their over handed treatment of the laws and taxes, the abuses by their agents, or their involvement in our daily lives.
They stood up and said, NO MORE!!

Maybe it's time for us a People to do it again!
I've said my rant, I'll probably be banned by the mods, but there it is.

Have a good Fourth of July.
Also....and may GOD bless!

Have a great holiday, I guess if the invasion of 1812 had turned out differently we would be celebrating as well.

You lost me on that one 180.
If it had turned out differently, we ( USA ) would NOT be celebrating Independence Day.
If I recall correctly, it was GB invading USA, not the other way around, and you blokes lost round 2 as well.

I can't see where GB invaded the US as they were already there, they did add to the numbers, often using mercenaries from Europe. Britain had bigger fish to fry in Europe.
Do not forget that many of the revolutionaries were British stock or had British forefathers, at the time they were deemed British. You only have to look at the surnames of them to see their roots.
It is quite interesting when you look into it.

See the PBS program on the war of 1812, quite enlightening.
Timeline of the war of 1812. US source.

Agreed, they were already here for the Revolutionary War, but they had to come back for the War of 1812.

Do not forget who declared war on who here, you burnt down York (Toronto) so we set fire to Detroit, I hear it's still burning, and the Whitehouse and a few places in between.
There were some troops here but the militias and Indian allies did most of the fighting. It is not a big thing in the U.S, we can only wonder why the winning battles are remembered. Read up on it, it was not a too popular war at the time in the U.S. As I say see the PBS program, a minor war but it drew the boundaries of our countries, which is the same as it was before the conflict.

Let's just leave this like the Treaty of Ghent in 1814, agree that nothing ever happened and go back to the way things were before.

To the victor goes the spoils. And, the victors are usually the ones who write the history.

With that said, a happy July 1st independence (Canada Day) day to our neighbors to the north as well as a happy independence day July 4th to US as well. Glad it went off without any notable terrorists nutjobs going off as well.
