Depreciation Floor?
I refinanced the remainder of my $6k left on my Crossfire at my bank.
While there they had told me my Crossie has appreciated $2k more than the $15k I bought it for.
I really think the bottom value of this vehicle is $10k. Any less and it would start to loose its top-of-the-line sports car status and become as valued as an old sporty coupe along the lines of a Mustang or Celica. Lets hope not.
For those who did get thiers for under $9k, let me know. I'd love to have a Crossfire as a daily driver and one for nice. Besides not having a back seat these are really great cars for fuel economy for what they are.

Prices have been going up on all used cars not just the Xfire. There is a shortage of all 2004/05 quality used cars. People are holding onto them and sales of new cars was slow in those years. Average age of cars that people are keeping has gone up significantly. The law of supply and demand holds and prices on all used cars with low mileage has gone up. Dealers are calling old buyers to see if they want to trade in their cars.
Historically depreciation will have reached the floor when the price is about $500 to 600 in today's dollars.

Did I really say that?
Take a look at this. I agree on cash for clunkers also having an impact.

One of my dealers sold a '04 Red Coupe 6sp with 75k on the clock for $9k at the auction yesterday. That car was R-O-U-G-H!!!! The bulkhead bolster was broken badly, headlights were a mess & the seats were super worn. I think that is very good money for a car that was a solid 6. CBB is 9450 on that car today. The same book 1 year ago valued that same car at 9150. That is pretty strong!!!

Yes---Yes---Yes!!!! Both are So true!!! When the NEW car market crashed, no one was "trading" used cars in---New cars sales went from 16 million to 10---PLUS the "cash for clunkers" took another 650,000 out of the market. People (the very poor) who would have bought them still need a car, so they are forced to move up market increasing the demand in a market that has less cars. I buy and sell at the auctions and I have NEVER paid so much for POOR cars---GOOD NEWS---I have never got so much for poor cars!!!! Our cars will still go down over time, but the curve will and has started to flatten!!!

Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.
Agree with most comments. I know I bought my 04 last August with 5600 miles on the clock for $13 even. It's worth more today than then but part of that is the revival of the used car market. Cars go down in value for lots of reasons but also maintain or go up in value for similar reasons -- age, rarity, condition, color, history (maintenance, reliability, etc. etc.), demand, and lot's of other factors.
From what I've seen, XFires are doing better than others. Heck, I'm looking at a second XFire this weekend (high mileage and needs alittle cosmetic work) and it's priced higher than a lower mileage really nice BMW 2 door with the sports package -- which is actually tempting me to buy it instead of the second XFire. The BMW has way more features, four seats, is in much better shape and is an automatic (which I only prefer because this one would become my daily driver). With that said, I'm still gravitating to the XFire for several reasons. I love the car.......it's so much fun to drive, is more unique, could be used as a parts car for my existing car if necessary, and I would like to keep an XFire as a daily driver.
If I can get the dealer down to where I want, I'll likely buy it (if it's mechanicals check out). We'll see.

I'd like to think we have hit the floor, buy it does not seem likely.
Consider as comparables:
Buick Reatta
Cadillac Allante
Pontiac Fiero
Going back further
Corvair Turbo Corsa/Spider
Opel GT
MGB/TR6
BMW 2002
240/260Z
All good cars in their day (IMH0), but mostly "orphans", 5-10K gets you a very nice one. I suspect our cars will ultimately fall into the same range.
my .02
Might as well get an intro in. I'm John, I live on the North Shore of Lake Superior in MN. I have owned a wide range of cars over the last 30 years. My wife and I were looking for sports car a little more modern than my '65 vette, so we added a 30Kmi. '07 6 spd coupe to the stable. We love it. Needs a cupholder though.

Speaking of Allante's, seller's around here are still trying to get $10k-12k for them.
Also the Reatta convertibles get about $8k-10k whereas the coupe get only up to $1000. I think it would be an interesting little car to drive. Red and Black seem to still look current.

Honestly I think it is better looking then the Xfire. It is one of the cars on my list roadster collection list.

Dude. Don't be posting before you have had your 1st cup of coffee!!!
I was actually talking with a friend on this topic. He just purchased one because he like my 04 so much. Well since then my last was totaled by a deer at 80, so two cars later in a year I went back to the Crossfire because I missed it so much. After doing much research I found I got a great deal on my first one and since then (2009) their prices have gone up in the past two years! For a joint Chrysler/Mercedes build and only a 4 year run it will be a collectors car down the road for sure! Snag one while you can now
Its a shame I wasn't wealthy in 2009, I would have loved to get one under their Lifetime Warranty Program.
sidenote: I just took the Crossfire for a little runabout. Interestingly enough I passed a Crossfire Roadster on a backroad, a pretty rare sight. I held up my hand in a quick wave but no acknowledgment. Thing I notice about being a Crossfire owner is that there isn't any friendly greeting amongst owners when they pass. That's what I love about my Miata. People go out of their way to either flip up the headlights, wave, or beep; everytime. Motorcyclists do the low wave their too. And I think Corvette owners might do their own thing as well.
I get the impression as soon as the other guy sees another Crossfire he is put in a mood that his ride isn't as unique as he thought it was and gets pissed. Its kinda sad there can't be a comradery outside of meets.
