Starting Issue
Hi all,
Can anyone give me any pointers to what the problem might be? I havent had it plugged in yet so don't know if its throwing any codes. Guess I'm just trying to save the £50 the local garages are asking to plug it in if its a common problem.
Symptoms:
Starts from cold first time, everytime
Once warm the engine turns over but doesnt start - will eventually start after about 3 or 4 tries.
At the point that it does fire I can feel some movement on the clutch pedal like a 'clunk'.
The car runs perfectly well all the time once its been started.
Thanks in anticipation.
Rick.

Not sure about the Cluch Pedal 'Clunk", but if it starts cold and fails hot, possibly the CPS is getting flakey.
Search CPS for additional details.
Typically a faulty CPS will allow a cold start, but kill engine once hot. Let it sit a little to kool, and it starts right up.
If the starting and Clutch noise are remotely related to your issue, then possibly not CPS related.
I'm not sure how a Clutch Clunk after starting could be associated with hard starts when warm, but nothing would surprise me lately...
And you need to pull the Codes...this will narrow your adventure...

Thanks for this! Do you mean camshaft or crankshaft position sensor?

I had a problem on another car like this and I beat my brains silly trying to solve it.
It turned out that the fuel pump was not reaching the normal pressure and starving the injectors, when cold the car would start because the injectors sprayed a richer mixture and the car would catch but when warm the injectors sprayed too little fuel for that little kick needed when starting. Normal driving was fine unless you stomped on the gas.

I had the exact same starting problem with mine - took it into the dealer under warranty and they replaced the fuel pump. It has been starting perfectly since.

I'd go with the Camshaft Sensor first.
( and what the heck, I'd also throw in a Crankshaft Sensor while I was at it )
Lots of info on that in threads, do a search.
