If you have a dome light issue, the following may provide a fix. It also raises dealer and manufacturer issues.

My dome light stopped working with the doors some time ago. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the BCM. They said it worked, but of course I drove away, opened the door at the exit, and it didn't work. Returned to service, and got a "we're going to have to check with Chrysler", response, with a we'll call you back. Came back a month later (they forgot about me and I had to call to get the matter back to consideration), and they said they were going to replace the BCM again. I talked to the service manager, and explained that considering the original BCM and the replaced BCM, this will be the third BCM, and pointed out that repeating the same act with no positive results is the definition of insanity. Asked him to run over the car with a circuit tester on the pertinent parts of the wiring harness because (IMHO) there is obviously an intermittent short or open in the circuit. He looked at me with a 'what makes you think you can do my job' expression.'

They replaced the BCM with a third BCM. You guessed it--it didn't work. But they fixed it. So how do I know it didn't work--not from the dealer. I had to ask for the back-up reports at the cashier to see what was done from the tech notes. Following replacing the BCM, there was a circuit test throughout the car and an open was found at the trunk latch.

I'm not indicting the dealer, as its no different from any other dealer I've ever dealt with, and in many ways much more competent and courteous. Still, why do cars cost so much? Could it have anything to do with Chrysler warranty support on my car paying $1200 for computer boards when there was no problem and the entire fix required $1.50 in parts.

I'm a bit suprized that it wasn't just the poor quaity of the light itself. I had to rebuild mine with superglue. But it's better than new!

And, yes. this would be one part of high car prices.
