Engine Malfunction Light Advice needed!
I have just filled up the tank with petrol/gas (depending on which side of the Atlantic you are on!) and noticed on pulling away that an orange warning light on the lefthand side of the instrument panel is staying on.
I have looked at the manual and it lists this light as an 'engine malfunction light' and may be due to poor fuel quality or issues with the catalytic converter (tho the car is apparently still ok to drive).
Anyone else had issues with this? Hopefully it is down to the fuel I have just put and not the cats (as I replaced both of these 18 months ago).
Anyone else had this issue or can give any advice? Hopefully the light might just turn itself off the next time I fill up.

If your gas cap is not put on tight you can get this error code.
Have someone pull the error code and they can also reset the light at the same time.

When you say pull the error code, do you mean a dealer? Is there anyway I can do this?
I'm not "positive" this works fine for our German Software.. but it gives you an Idea of what they are talking about. The interface port is down under the dash by your left (American version). We have automotive stores that will read the codes for free.

Did a few searches on here and think this might be something to do with the P0410 code issue that many XF drivers seem to have experienced. I think this is due to the either air inject pump not being registered by the ECU or issues with the pump. What I have noticed recently that I am pretty sure was not happening before was that I can hear a whirring for about 30 seconds after starting the car from cold, I assume this could be the air pump. Does this mean there are issues with it?
