Default Air bag code help... Why warranties on our cars are needed

57k miles on my 2005 and the airbag light goes on. My car is a garage queen now. I had a local mechanic clear the code but it keeps coming back. The first set of codes were an 03 and an 01. They cleared it but the 01 kept coming back. They told me that code means the control unit is faulty. Is this correct and if so what does this mean? Could the dealership charge me thousands of dollars for a new airbag unit or do you think a wire is messed up that just needs some attention. Anyone else have similar problems? Would i have any ground to complain to chrysler or would they just say "your out of luck". My warranty just ran out and I was thinking of renewing it anyway. But this is proof that warranties are needed.

I ask a serious question and I get a dumb response. Thanks!

If you can extend your warranty, do so. Your problem is that very few 07 and 08 models were built. Dash airbags and controller are unique to 07 and 08 only. Can't use 04 - 06. You will likely be forced to buy a new very expensive controller.

So are you telling us you went down to the Bentley dealer and they told you to bug off? I'm amazed they couldn't see the resemblance. I mean the crossfire has 4 wheels and so do they're Bentley's.

Why don't you join the slk forum and leave us crossfire owners alone. If you can't answer my question in a mature manner, don't hijack my thread.

How much do you think it would cost me? This is exactly why the expended warranty is worth every penny. One single problem and the warranty pays for itself.

Oh I have, but the people over there aren't as stupid as you are. They don't have a silly dilusion that their cars are exotic. Then again several of them actually own exotic cars.

So what did Bentley tell you?

Yeah... you can meet Thirteendog at the Bentley dealership in Loserville. He has been there for the past couple years waiting for you.... he has been there drooling over the "Exotics" ever since he traded in his crossfire for a Kompressor.

Let's get back on topic now!

I hope this one is there. I want to laugh at these wheels in person. So far in attendance will be be John, Nick, Steve, BlackCrossfire07, Tim (MrMopar) and me. Who else is interested in meeting up at the Bentley Dealership? Hey, can someone let me in on which dealership so I don't end up in the wrong state?

Blackcrossfire07 doesn't like meeting other people. If he did he'd realize his crossfire isn't as rare as he thinks it is, or maybe he doesn't have one. Who knows? I mean who really takes a base model crossfire and makes it into a garage queen?

You have a Limited? That has additional creature comforts, so it's extry-Bentleyish. Of course you can come!

Basically, you need this. I'm not sure if these are VIN specific but I sent one out to a forum member from my part-out and haven't heard of any issues with it. I'm sure Tim has at least one of these from the four chassis he has... And I'd rather ya do business with him than a random eBayer.

Unfortunately you won't be able to find this at your local Bentley dealer, despite the fact Bentley copied the Crossfire's design and is a blatant ripoff.

The dealership just told me that could be a 1,500 dollar part! I think I am going to call Chrysler and complain... then threaten to sue if the airbag deploys for no reason or doesn't go off in an accident. I would rather spend 2K on a lawyer than 2K to a dealer just to get jerked around!
