Default the right xfire for me

hi all.

my name is gary.new member.i am starting my search for my first xfire here.wanted to get the best info and advice from the ppl who are in the know.
i have wanted a xfire since they appeared in europe.at the time(and still even now) they are a beautiful machine to behold and from my 2 test drives.a 2 seater sports coupe not to be laughed at.
i am now in the position to buy a 2004/2006 model and was wondering would the manual or auto be the better option(due to their rarity the srt 6 is a no go).

opinons and advice would be greatfully accepted and taken on board.

regards

gary (cork,ireland)

So Ireland doesn't have many SRT6. Well, if that option is out, I think the manual transmission would be more fun to drive around your beautiful countryside. Good luck on your search.

LOL....well, you know, I would be searching for 1 of the 3.... I am sure the manual would be more fun to play with on the rolling, curving roads over there. The auto stick does fine after you get use to it and I am a fan of it, but....there are times I miss a stick... I drive for a living shifting gears all day long, so it nice to just relax in an auto for awhile, but still be able to play with the slap stick feature....good luck on your search, start looking for 1 of 3...lol

Black coupe 6speed here and I love it.. as far as the year, someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but i don't think they changed anything major over the years besides what they called the trim levels.. so an 04 limited should be just as good and a little less costly than the newer years

I agree.."alabaster" is what you want to find.

After test driving several of each I opted for a auto. Found the manual notchy and rough shifting compared to others i had driven and seemed more of a chore to drive. I had a 6speed in my 350z and loved it but this car needs a auto imho.

Unfortuntely, I don't think "alabaster" was offered in Europe.

As for what transmission to choose, I'd say just take a look at your driving habits.
Do you spend hours on end trudging through stop-in-go city traffic weekly? Then choose the auto.
Or do you get to spend lots of time on winding roads and freeways? By all means jump in a 6 spd.
As been mentioned, the 6 spd can be a little "notchy" (usually just in the 1-2 shift) but it's something most manual shift driver get use to. Some say it gets better with age (more miles), and it does seem to smooth out as the transmission oil warms up. Most agree, the more aggressive you drive, the less it seems to interfere.
That being said, it's still the worst shifting manual shift car I've owned, (except for a 1960 MGA) and I still love it.
It just takes some getting use to. Being a Sports Car, makes it all worthwhile. Good hunting.
