how come my car doesnt roll when i let go of the gas?
When I let go of the gas, my car doesn't seem to want to roll at all. It feels as if I've downshifted, when i let go of the gas. 04 auto
Just wondering, since other cars I drive will roll when I let go of the gas.

My idle is fine, if anything, it's a little high.
1. Are you using autostick?
2. Is you tranny in S or W mode?
My roadster exhibits similar behavior, especially in S mode. I can coast down steep grades and actually reduce speed without touching the brakes. IMHO, this is a good thing.

other cars that I drive, forenza, sebring, corolla
I'd bet the Crossfire weighs more than those. At least the Forenza and Corolla.
the other cars will continue to pickup speed going down the same hill.
I've wondered about this very thing...according to my UG, the best MPG I can get coasting in gear is about 98 MPG. When I put the car in neutral, depending on speed, I've seen as high as 211 MPG. My car is an '05 with autostick, set in S mode...our previous Sebring didn't exhibit the same symptoms, neither did the two Saturns, the Astro van, Mustang LX, Honda Prelude, Olds Eighty-Eight... it seems that the Xfire is almost a manual in that respect...
the crossfire is a 5 speed auto....it will gear down...more of a sports type gearing in the tranny... the other cars you mentioned I wouldn't think would have that... I owned Olds 88 Sport Sedan years back that would coast forever it seemed, and you would need to brake more...I like the gearing in the XF....don't need the brakes as much....
I believe Doc is right...
My DD is a 5 speed PT turbo, and it will gain speed going down hill, even with the cruise on!
But my Coupe will engine brake on most hills around my town.

I noticed the Crossfire auto gearbox is one of the few cars that doesn't move forward hardly at all if you have it in Drive and let your foot off the gas. Most auto gearboxes today will move the car forward at about 5 mph if you let off the brake while in Drive. My Dad's Highlander practically lurches forward, my C55 was less drastic but felt similar. I actually prefer that the car doesn't roll forward much as I think of it as a concern in stop and go traffic.
My 04 auto drives as described. As I approach a red light going uphill at slow speed it feels like the tranny downshifts by itself into a lower gear. I barely have to use the brake. Ive only noticed this in my Crossfire and not in other auto trans cars I've driven.
yes, reckah...your car is normal... Today a lot of pickup trucks are geared this way as well. It helps with towing. The old days, you had 3 speed autos, later 4 speed autos...now it is 5,6,7 and even greater, allowing for better gearing, and downshifting capabilities...

Is it ok to shift to neutral while going 30mph to roll down the hill then shifting back to D around 40mph at the bottom of the hill?
I live in a part of the city where it's 90% hills. I dont want to have to accelerate down the hill. I'd rather just roll down the hill.
