Default Car won't start, not RCM

My wife was having issues with the car not staring, not even making a sound when trying to start...so I did the RCM mod a couple of months ago. This time around the car is making a loud "click click click" sound, and the belt is moving maybe a half inch with every "click." You can also make it click for as long as you want. She just drove the car less than a week ago with no issues, so I'm not really sure what exactly it could be. The sound sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine, but then again, I'm just guessing.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm thinking starter, but not sure. The battery should be fine since it was driven recently with no issues.

LOL.. Battery.. mine was fine (even though it was OEM) .. started up for the morning trek to work.. 32 mile dirve in.. stopped in the the Quick Trip store.. "click" was all she had left.
Might make sure the terminals are good and clean connection to the battery post. Just a cheap quick "maybe"..fix..

CPS if not battery? I can't remember if mine clicked at all when it went out.

This doesn't seem like a bad battery. I guess click is a bad word, it sounds more aggressive than that...it's quite louder than what I think a dead batt would cause. The engine isn't trying to turn over at all, just a little start-and-stop moving of the serpentine belt when the clicking is going on.

If it were the cps it would spin over and not start.. my experience with the batter was it "sounded" like a relay engaging and that was it.. I'm going to guess yours sounds like it's wanting to.. like starter "click" when engaging the starter to flywheel.. would explain slight movement.. so at that point (if your sure about battery) I'd have to go with starter..

I was afraid it would end up being the starter.

I'd still check cables and grounds before tearing into it.. Just saying..

I'm certainly no mechanic...but if I try jumping it with my truck, it still won't start if the starter is the issue, right?

Correct.. and also applies to any cable issues.. I emphasize cables because the ground at the chassis has been problematic for other users.

Ok, thanks. I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Let us know how it goes.. Kinda makes a database of "it's doing this" we can reference later down the road.

you either don't have a good ground...meaning clean the cable ends on the battery, or your battery isn't as good as you thought it was. Good luck...

Grabbed some jumper cables today and it started right up. I'm going to check the connections tomorrow to see if there are any issues, and if not I'm going to use my load tester on the batt to see if it can still handle a load put on it.

My '07 Limited Coupe still has the original factory battery in it. But I only have a little over 12k on the ODO. So the car sits most of the time. When we do drive it occasionally around town, the alternator doesn't have enough time to "charge -up" the battery. So every 6 months or so, I hook up the battery charger to the factory battery and let it get a good charge during a weekend afternoon. So far no battery-related starting issues.

A load tester may or maynot work. I have an old original battery still in use on a hydraulic assisted lift trailer, doing just fine, but it wouldn't start the car anymore... Cranking amps just weren't there, but the voltage was... Time for a new battery. Even new battery can go bad. The electronics in these cars are just too sensitive to amps...
