It will be interesting to see how many "totaled" Crossfires that will be involved in the flooding on the East coast ...... I guess a "caveat" will be in order for cars that have water damage or have been re-titled..... just sayin .....

 

Interesting, I am also on the subaru forums and have already talked to 5-6 people that have total losses on relatively new cars that are $30-40K, I would have to assume with the low ground clearance, age, and depreciation, that we may lose several to Sandy...

My house was hit by two trees, but the crossfire was safe in the garage on the other side of the house

 

Bummer on the house - good beans on the car! We were trashed years ago by Hurricane Hugo, trees also got my house but cars were in a garage that was spared.

We were alerted on how just minor winds can cause unexpected problems just last month. Sons car looks like it was smashed by hail - nope, big acorns from an Oak he had parked under.

If damaged cars were sold as salvage, I'd be interested in a deal on an SRT6!

 

I love me some crossfires, but you couldn't pay me enough to take a crossfire with water damage, too many electronics that cost way too much...

That reminds me of the time when my wife phoned me and said she had just had an accident in the car. Just being married I said "how's the Mustang". That's when the fight started.

I figured if she was phoning instead of the hospital then she had to be OK.

Forty three years later she still remembers and will not let me forget. Women.

 

I don't mean to try to get running - I mean to use as parts cars. Sure the electronics would be toast, but I figure the hard bits could be taken apart, cleaned up and reused. Main thing I want is the engine and blower. Other odds and ends like the brakes would be good too. Long term stupid goal is to try and build a SRT6 out of my coupe but keep the six speed.

 

Yes, I can see my wife of 42 years bringing this up whenever it suited her. She has an excellent memory for that sort of thing.

Not the exact same thing, but sort of, just happened to me. Wife called yesterday. She is driving her 08 Mugen Civic Si. Says "I was driving car and oil pressure, alternator & check engine light came on. Stopped the car & it was low on oil". I mentally panicked and left the shop unmanned, drove down to get her. How in the heck do all three lights come on at once unless the engine or the computer is fried?

Rest of story is: Check engine light came on. Not blinking. She pulls over in a parking lot, gets out manual. Checks oil - it is 1/16" below full. Turns on key WITHOUT STARTING THE MOTOR and notices the oil pressure light and alternator light.

Naturally, I would rather have her be overly cautious than the opposite so I tried, as gently as possible, to let her know how to handle this in the future.
As these things do happen, I'm driving the Honda back to the shop, and the dang check engine light actually reset itself and went out.

 

Well then I can offer is some limited knowledge and a sincere, heartfelt 'good luck', I know it won't be an easy task, but at least one has done it before, so it is possible....

It sure would be fun, I totalled one XF and was in the market for my current one, I went and drove another member's modified SRT and while it went like stink, it was no fun to drive unless you could actually use the power, there was nothing to do LOL I catch hell for it sometimes, but would much rather have a little slower manual and be able to put all the power to the ground
