Default HELP!!! This is my one time of need...

Good morning everyone, I was on my way to work this morning in Plano, Texas and I large piece of metal struck the front of my car. The car in general is ok with no significant structural damage. However, it took with it the piece that goes along the top of my windshield. As you know this piece is silver on limiteds and black on base models. Mine was black and it now gone. I know the body shop will be able to hand the hood and paint. I am worried that I will not be able to find a replacement piece for the top of the windshield. Any thoughts? Also a suggestion for a good bodyshop in the Dallas area would be great too. Thanks!

JR

They are readily available pieces, just ungodly expensive, I think they are MSRP $300 each for the three windshield surround pieces, but you should not have trouble finding it...

For the record, the one piece molding strip that goes across the top of the windshield is $1,500 by itself!! Only part that my car is missing, grand total $4,000.

Well, if your insurance company wants to pay that then go for it, but I think with a little patience and searching, you could find one a lot cheaper.....

Saw one on Ebay a few days back.. $200. Might be worth seeing if it's still there?

Is it damaged or missing?
Couldn't hurt to go back and look for it if it came off.
If you have it and it is damaged it can be repaired or you could cover it with the chrome covers.

Look at this on eBay:

CHROME WINDSCREEN SURROUND SET 3pc Crossfire windshield

$1,500?!?! That is a bloody rip off, and I know for a fact they can be had for 20% of that, on the top end. I have bought and sold 3 different sets to help forum members.

Also, the chrome set listed above needs to be attached to your current surround, so these do not replace anything, they simply add to the OEM a layer of chrome...

There are 30+ 'windshields' listed on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Call some of the places, they HAD to remove that trim to get to the windshield ......

I actually think your best bet is perusing eBay and finding sellers (which usually happen to be salvage shops with an eBay store front) parting out salvage Crossfires. My guess is it will be much faster for you to find a shop with a salvage Crossfire (like this one: 04 05 06 07 08 Crossfire Passenger Side Front Door CPE | eBay) and simply contact the seller directly regarding your interest in the piece you want.

You can also contact MrMoPar as others have said, however, he never responded when I PM'd him several months ago about a part. The guy is probably just busy but still, a salvage yard should be able to work out a deal with you for the window trim part you need. Then all you have to do is have it painted black.

You don't see too many "Base" model Crossfires around like yours - a bit of a rare bird. It has cloth seats with manual adjustment right?

Actually look! Here is a Base model that is salvaged that already has the black trim: Carrier Differential 2004 2005 2006 2007 Chrysler Crossfire | eBay

Good luck.

MAN!! Thanks for all of your guy's responses. Chrysler's MSRP is 1,500. I am letting the insurance company deal with it! It is ia base Crossfire that I bought in Germany, it has been tuned by Carllson. It has right under 300 hp. Thanks so much for your guys' help, if I was not going to let the insurance company pay for it I would def be using you guys! I haven't been on the forum in a while and appreciate your guys feedback. They haven't started on it yet, but I am hoping to have it back late next week. I just hope they have no problems blending the new black panels with the older ones.

Mit Freundlichen Gruessen,

JR

Any decent painter should have no problem with the color.
Good luck.
